What song is the "epitome of 1980s pop music", in your opinion?

The sound, the feel..what songs bring you back or just sound "the most 80s" to you?

My top 3 would be..

Flock of seagulls - I Ran
Modern English - I melt with you
Peter Schilling - Major Tom

And out of those I'd have to go with "I Ran".

This would probably be my vote.

Maybe Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel.

Any list without Duran Duran isn't complete, however both Take On Me and Everybody Wants to Rule the World are legit.

And I vote Hungry Like the Wolf or Rio as DD songs.

And I'd add the underrated "Broken Wings" as well.

I would say a lot of these choices don't really "sound" 80s at all. If you pick songs that are still on the radio today they might not have enough archaic synths and plastic-y drums to really epitomize the era. Particularly guitar-driven songs.

My choices would include:

She Blinded Me With Science - Thomas Dolby
I Can't Wait - Nu Shooz
Let The Music Play - Shannon
West End Girls - Pet Shop Boys
Bizarre Love Triangle - New Order
Delirious - Prince
Strangelove - Depeche Mode
Keep Feeling Fascination - Human League
