AIC started as a metal band.

It Ain't Like That (At the Moore.)

RHCP was closer to metal than Live..

80's hairband metal was kind of on it's way out by then, grunge displaced it with the gen-x/millenials need to "be different".

After all can't be a radical if you listen to the same shite mom and pop listen to.

Live is not a 'heavy metal band'. I would put them as another alternative band. Metal would be like Pantera or Soulfly.

Live is not metal. In the 90's there was Pantera & then there was everyone else.

I mean there's really no argument to be made here...

Sorry, that isn't metal...that is grunge rock with heavy distortion.

AIC and Live are NOT metal bands!

Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera...those were metal bands from the 80s,90s...

The only band you could throw up there with Pantera in the 90s is White Zombie imo, and Pantera was still ahead of them.

Pantera was the undisputed champ of 90s metal.

Here's an easy litmus test know whether a song in question is an arse-Kicking Rock song, or an actual authentic Heavy Metal song. Skip 2/3 of the way to end, if you hear a lead guitar solo, without lyrics you might be listening to Heavy Metal, otherwise a lack of Guitar-Solo strongly implies it is not Heavy Metal.

I am not arguing who is the best metal band from the 90s. I was simply helping those dolts who have no idea what a metal band actually is.

White Zombie/Rob Zombie is another great example, though.

Musically, yes. Left Hand Path is the GOAT of death metal. I'm factoring popularity into this equation. All of those bands were from Sweden too. They all had a place in the underground in the early 90s.

Everybody knew Pantera. From Burzum fans to Nirvana fans. Pantera was gigantic.

The bands you're referring to played much more technical music than Pantera. As did Carcass, Bolt Thrower, Deicide, Suffocation, Dark Tranquility, etc. But those bands all had niche fanbases. Pantera's fan base was massive.

hate to see this. i was running with the wrong crowd in the 90s when i started getting into heavy shite like Live. took off from there...collective soul, lit...got cleaned up for awhile but relapsed around '03 when switchfoot came out. that was worth it though man those guys changed the metal game. anyway, staying clean is probably the hardest thing a person can do. if you ever just need someone to talk to, email me at linkTD@gmail. lord knows i needed to be talked down from the ledge more than a few times myself. good luck bro.

AIC wasn't grunge. They preceded grunge. They were hard rock/alternative metal until the early 1990's when their sound mellowed a bit..

I'm more disturbed by the fact he thinks Live is a good band. No, the best heavy metal band of the 90s is Alice in Chains. If they don't qualify, which I think they do, it is then Pantera.

And I'm disturbed about the thought of AIC being described as heavy metal.

Sepultura was one of my favorites from the '90's. As reflected in my user name. ROOTS BLOODY ROOTS!

I'd consider them part metal part thrash.

Roots and Chaos AD were good but I think their Magnum Opus was Beneath The Remains.
