metallica - unforgiven III
its a travesty that no one tried to put any marketing behind this song. could have been one of their singles off that album. one of the better hammett solos in a few albums as well.

What album is that off of? I haven't really listened to any Metallica since AJFA. I've heard in recent years that one of their albums sounds kind of like their old stuff, but I can't remember which one.

its off of death magnetic. their old stuff is tasteful. its what makes them so good. very little was over the top. DM was a return to their old ways, but it was too much here, not enough there. considering its 25 years after kill em all, its fantastic. they had a couple of gems on that album, unforgiven III was one of them.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow

I do anesthesia and one of the OR nurses played this in the OR when I was just beginning my training. Made me think about just what in the hell was going on in my patient's mind while they were going to sleep. "Pick out a nice dream." Boom... they're asleep.

Less known stuff.

Wilie Nelson - Stardust

Very Good Year - Sinatra

September Song - Sinatra

Even as a kid I knew life was short. These songs hit home even then.

Ride of the Valkyries

I'd shiver in an electric blanket while wearing wool pajamas if I heard this piece.

especially when I think about the 2nd armored division blaring it on there way to destroy the Republican Guard in the Tank Battle of 73 Easting.

Here's a precursor to the Led Zep son "Achilles Last Stand." It's the Yardbirds "Happenings Ten Years Time Ago", a fiery piece of psychedelia. Notice Paige's riff and compare to "Achilles".

Two songs that do it every time.

Proud to be an American and American Soldier.

Both songs are so very powerful and mean so much to me personally.

The first notes of the LSU Pregame also stop me dead in my tracks. Those notes could make an Old Miss fan cry so you can imagine what it does for an LSU fan.
