It's a shame that George began to break out just as the band was ending.

So many great songs and it's up there for sure. It's also one of their most beautiful compositions.

The Beatles had so many Great songs it's hard to pick "The Best" but I would say Harrison had 3 of their best songs in Something, While My Guitar Gently Weeps & Here Comes The Sun. He was overshadowed by Lennon/McCartney up until around 1968-1969 then wrote these big three and really came into his own as a songwriter. He also had a #1 album in 1971, the year after their brake-up, in All Things Must Pass.

I like this live version of Something, with Clapton, apparently taken with a home video recorder.

My favorite all time Beatles song. Such a wonderfully joyous song. Always puts a smile on my face.

Here Comes the Sun is not my favorite Beatles song

But it might be the perfect Beatles song.

I think it's up there - maybe not #1. I'm still partial to a number of McCartney compositions, notably Let it Be and You Never Give Me Your Money.

The Long and Winding Road could find itself ahead of Something on some days.

But, WTF do I know? Francis Albert Sinatra agreed with you.

Glancing at the track list for Abbey Road just confirms how good the album really is over the years (ETA: And noticeably better because of Here Comes the Sun and Something, instead of more Marxist whining by John or granny music by Maca, BTW).

If it isn't the best album of all time, it's certainly the measuring stick for those claiming to be better.

And - in keeping with the theme of the thread - I like how Lennon seemed threatened by Harrison's emergence as a songwriter - (Here Comes the) Sun King sure sounds like Lennon trying to be Harrison - and ends up with the worst track of the album not written and sung by Richard Starkey.

Just watched a netflix movie about him: George Harrison: Living in the Material World and it goes into how he had been writing all this music that had never made it on an Beatles album. And so when the break came he had the material already at hand. One of the stories claims Sinatra caledl 'Something' the greatest love song (maybe- all time).

Movie was long minutes (hours), but worth the look if you break it up instead of binge watching. I always like him before, but perhaps might consider him now my favorite with the test of time. Real spiritual guy - the way he dealt with others - and carried himself.

My favorite Beatles song is "She Said, She Said". "Something" is nice but it's a little too mellow for my preference.

Which is why his solo album "All Things Must Pass" is a masterpiece.

There was a lot of great stuff that was overlooked by John and Paul that should have made it onto those later albums... Wah-Wah, I'd Have You Anytime, The Ballad of Sir Franky Crisp, What is Life, Apple Scruffs...

I would have gladly removed Maxwell's Silver Hammer or Sun King for Beware of Darkness or Awaiting on You All.

To me, All Things Must Pass is as good/better than most Beatles albums. And I'm one of these Beatles fans that think everything they did is perfection

They didn't make anything bad. Well maybe The Yellow Submarine album, but that was more contractual and there's still some good stuff on it. All of their studio albums were great.

I recently read that some publication had rated Beatles For Sale as their worst album. I don't get it. I love that album.

Probably because it had a quite a few cover songs and it followed A Hard Day's Night, which didn't have any. It's probably my least favorite as well, outside of the Yellow Submarine soundtrack. Still give it an 8/10, though.

On the Anthology documentary, it covered how the Beatles were sort of worn out after touring so much and didn't really put a great effort into recording Beatles for Sale.

You mean "Beatles For Sale" right? With the Beatles was their 2nd British album.

I agree. John's contributions towards the end are sometimes a pretty tedious listen for me. To have these top notch tunes excluded while Sun King and Dig a Pony occupy space on the last two albums, I see why he wanted out. He had the most to gain, and arguably did.

Love the contrasting solos. Both are perfect representations of each guitarists respective styles.
