Hearing STP always takes me back in time. I enjoyed their music and am thankful that they made it.
I hope he has found peace.

his last interview was a trainwreck. all one word answers, minus a few barely coherent attempts at sentences.

his sickly look recently had me wondering if a relapse was near.
i think its been the case for quite some time. losing the band mate on this tour to an OD, and then his REALLY bad shows (plural, not just the one).... i was hoping that it would get better, but.... man, its a shame no one (family, label, tour manager, band mates, even himself) said time to get off the road. 2 band members dead in under a year..... whole thing shouldve probably been shut down 6 months ago. who knows if it wouldve made a difference but man....

I always thought they were one of the most underrated under appreciated bands ever.
This. My first concert ever was STP at Phillips Arena in Atlanta 2001. Saw them several times over the years and Scott always stole the show. I have this feeling that one day we'll look back and realize how great of a band STP was and that Scott was truly one of the GOAT frontmen.
Trippin on a hole...

looks like the bassist had some bad coke
quote:
During a subsequent search, police located a small quantity of a controlled substance they determined to be cocaine. The narcotic was found in the bedroom where Weiland's body was discovered and that police say was used by Thomas Delton Black, a Wildabouts bassist.
Black, 47, of Studio City, California, was arrested and will be charged with possession of a controlled substance, Bloomington police said.

I was and still am a big fan of STP.
One of my favorite Weiland performances was this cover of Wish You Were Here when he was with Velvet Revolver.

I'm just shocked it was cocaine and not heroin

Back in the 90s I was really into alt-rock like most people but I was coming from a more hardline critical angle and I didn't give a lot of slack to later "grunge" type bands that I felt were opportunists and cashing in on the trend of that time. I also had friends who were of the same mindset and very few of them gave Stone Temple Pilots very much approval. It was kind of a secret handshake amongst indie types back then to bash on them and Weiland in particular.
And as much as I was in step with all that, I never could deny that I really liked STP. It was conflicting because frankly I found Weiland to be a frustrating lyric writer and also kind of a hard person not to dislike. I felt bad for the other guys in the band because his personal flakiness always seemed to keep them from getting to the next level. He had a bad tendency toward saying kind of douchey self-aggrandizing things in the press. Hooking up with the Guns n Roses guys didn't help that opinion for me.
But as much as I wanted to deny it because of those things, every now and then I would hear a good STP song turned up loud and I would think "Damn, that shite really does kind of rock". That whole opinion was solidified when I saw them live when they really had it together as a cohesive musical unit. There's no denying that when they were "on", which was most of the time, they could make some really great music. Sad to see him go.

I was of that same mindset in the 90s RnRD, only difference is I've never come around to them
I just care less these days (one of my best friends favorite bands as DMB for christs sake)...
Anyway, I'm sure he was a very charismatic front man, like many suggest... I just have never had a desire them to see them live...

yeah, it could be both. im sure they'll figure it out.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was even something like bacon grease that caused his body to shut down tbh. The dude was abusing hard drugs for so many years that it probably didn't take much of anything to take him down. What a waste. He was so talented.

I saw STP at a festival show in the late 90s/early 00s, after one of his many relapses and during one of their first reunions. It was the peak of the hunger dunger dang era, and the bill was dominated by horrible rap-metal bands who bemoaned how miserable they were in all of their lyrics.
Then Weiland took the stage and was just... so happy to not be dead. You could feel the sheer joy from the guy, and STP played their asses off and blew everyone else off the stage (not that it was hard, the bill really was dismal).
He was one of the last great frontmen in rock n roll. He dominated the stage.
