If there is one better please provide your argument. For me, I have been to 4 Rush Concerts and his solos always kept my attention. It was because of him that I bought a set of drums in 1981 but didn't have enough rhythm or time to get into it.

Drum Solo

How many drummers does it take to change a light bulb?

Five. One to change it, and the other four to stand around and talk about how much better Neil Peart would have done it

The crowd was dead in that video until the very end when the horns were added in. Or perhaps they were cheering because the solo was over.

I prefer Keith Moon, if only because he was never in Rush and hated drum solos

He died too young. So you will never know what he could have been. And he HATED solos? When did he die? He may have hated them but he had a "look at me style" no reason to flail around the drum kit like that and then destroy it. When did he die?

Just wanted to make sure you appreciated drum solos. There are definitely some awesome ones out there.

yes -- he found them boring

1978

He was 32

FWIW Max Roach, the great jazz drummer, is on record as an admirer of Moon

Probably right. I ain't bashing him. He was awesome. But died too soon. You can go wake Neil Peart up right now and he would kick arse. Buddy Rich was an old bastard and still kicked arse. What could Keith have been???

Solos are about "look at me". Moon's style was all "look at me." Which is the point I am trying to make. If he had the chance to get older he may have changed his mind. People want to see a badass be a badass. Give em' what they want man.
