Stay away from the epiphones. Spend that extra money on a used Gibson. You'll regret buying an epi down the road when you're trying to get rid of it and the resale value has not held at all.

How are the MIM strats and the Squier CV's? I want my strat fix but I'm on a budget
Stay away. Just save up some extra $ to buy a used fender or Gibson etc.

I have an Epi Studio Dot 335 and it sucks. The pickups are a muddy mess. Its in the back of my closet if you want it.

The last thing I'm worried about on a $300 guitar is resale value.
More to Stache's point, I'm more concerned about how much more I'll have to put into it.
I think I've decided not to get it. I appreciate everybody's input.

I should add, if you are looking for a 335 vibe, the Epi Casino is awesome. If has 2 actual P-90s...I know thats different than the 335 but its a great hollow body that sounds awesome. I may eventually pull the trigger on one.

Paul used an Epiphone Texan Acoustic early on.

I don't understand the love for Epiphone when, if you really look hard enough, there are very descent older (real) Gibsons to be had for a few dollars more...just don't get sucked in by a Chibson on ripee offeebay.

Thanks buddy.
It's just ONE extra "zero" on the bank statement.

I saw a really nice looking Gary Clark Casino with P-90s on Musician's Friend or Zzounds or one of those places. The Sheraton (actually the Sheraton II Pro) is also supposed to be good. John Lee Hooker played one.

Try an Indonesian G&L before you buy a MIM strat

Epiphone is owned by Gibson, but the production is contracted out to non-Gibson companies. Squire, on the other hand, is owned and manufactured by Fender.

If you're going with Epiphone, get the Lest Paul 1960's Tribute Plus.
it's about as close to being a full blown gibson as you can get on a budget.
real mahogany with a hard maple cap (instead of a cheap veneer) and actual Gibson 1957 PAF pickups.
I own a Black Cherry one and it looks and sounds amazing.
