Breakfast In America had four top 100 hits, two top ten hits, was number 1 album for six weeks, went quadruple platinum, and received numerous awards as well as being considered one of the best albums of all time. How on earth is that underrated?

Wasn't suggesting Loverboy was on the same level as The Grass Roots or Three Dog Night. Just that they were underappreciated in my opinion.

Guess I was sucked in by Little Feat.

I don't find I hear Supertramp talked about now like a lot of their contemporaries. Totally forgot just how huge they were back when I was in high school.

Well, I am probably not the best of music critics.

Great pick, BTW. I love Three Dog Night and also The Grass Roots, which another poster mentioned. Both very important in my development of my musical taste (I'm 60 and had older siblings, they put me in touch with a lot of groups earlier than many of my friends).

Funny you bring up The Grass Roots. Your experience is the same as mine. Those two groups were the beginning of my really getting into music. Stuff like "Sooner Or Later" and "Two Divided By Love" are so good. Dennis Provisor was the perfect counterpoint to Rob Grill like Cory Wells was to Chuck Negron in Three Dog Night.

The sound of a Hammond B3 always makes me feel good inside.

Linda Ronstandt's band (she always had top notch musicians who could out. The '76 - '77 lineup was arguably the best AND so underated)

Band (c. 1976):

Linda Ronstadt - Vocals
Waddy Wachtel - Guitar, Background Vocals
Andrew Gold - Guitar, Keyboards, Background Vocals
Brock Walsh - Keyboards, Bass
Kenny Edwards - Bass, Banjo, Harmonica, Mandolin, Guitar, Background Vocals
Dan Dugmore - Guitar, Pedal Steel Guitar
Mike Botts - Drums

I like to think Alice in Chains was underrated. They weren't thought of as highly as Nirvana or Pearl Jam (just like every other band at the time), but looking back I think they were so much better.

Yup. Right there of being "Most Underrated". They killed it in the late 70s-early 80s.

Great compositions, in-sync guitar work, impeccable harmonies.

(The Eagles Glenn Frey considered their harmonies among the best; he even guest-toured with them during the 80s)

The Animals (and especially) Cinderella were both OVER-rated if anything.

Hell, I’ll throw in some late 70’s/80’s rockers that probably never got their due:

Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush
Saxon
Kings X
Riot
Triumph
