Don't get me wrong I am a big Panic fan, but does anyone else think Mikey made the band? Their music isn't the same w/o him. I think he was the rock of their sound.

I'm too young to have seen Mike but yes he was absolutely the heart of the band that I love so I will always appreciate him for that. While I am obviously disappointed that I never got to see him, I feel fortunate that I didn't become jaded to where I can't enjoy Jimmy. Dude is a freak and I enjoy what he's turned them into. They're not the same as they used to be but I'd prefer that they do what they are doing now rather than try to sound like they did back then. Mikey had a very unique sound and style. He's one of my all time favorites.

Absolutely

Door Harp was my go-to study album. I'd lock myself in my room in college, and that would play on repeat.

Sandbox on the other hand just flat out rocks. I love Low Country, but the whole thing is top notch.

They haven't put together a halfway decent album since 2001.

They should just quit making new music all together because the post Mikey stuff, save 4 or 5 songs, is really, really awful. If they insist on making new albums, Jerry Joseph should write every song.

Yes. His use of pentatonic scale and the volume pedal was their definitive sound. They've been pretty terrible since his passing.

You could have called me to discuss this. When I first started taking you to panic shows in the 90s, Mikey was on top of his game. After he died, I continued to see the band with Sam Holt and George and Bramblett (your boy). I really enjoyed the band with Holt, TBH.

Now with Jimmy, I can sit through a show, but got dammit, it is not the same. Houser's style and his ability to lead the band into crazy, spacey jams is what is missing these days.

We need to hit a show. We'd still have fun. Instead of buying balloons in the lot, we'd be buying panic onesies for the kids.

seriously? There's a reason Jerry was not tapped for lead guitar.

Yes, very serious.

I never said anything about lead guitar either. I said Jerry Joseph needs to WRITE the songs.

Jerry Joseph is a great song writer.

I've probably listened to his 40 watt show (2001 right after 9/11), and the Georgia Theatre show (2002 right after spring panic tour, and my last time seeing Mikey) at least 100 times

Both are on archive.org and have Houser on lead

Absolutely one of the most underrated.

Stockholm Syndrome and The Jackmormons always rocked really hard.

I disagree. I really don't like his songs that Panic covers. Maybe it is because they overplayed the shite out of him and had Jerry sit in for about half of the shows I've seen. I just got tired of Chainsaw city.

Jerry Joseph and the Jackmormons - Mouthful of Copper

It's a live Jackmormons show. If you don't like that there's something wrong with you.

Every JJ song they cover is light years better than anything JB has written in the last 10 years and Climb To Safety and Henry Parsons aren't my favorites. Chainsaw City is actually one of the few songs that I think Jimmy does very well.

I like the songs that he wrote but I don't like his playing that much. Herring is a big upgrade in that department. WP songs aren't as good as they were when Mikey was around.
