Jerry wrote Second Skin, I like that one. I pretty much head for the bump stall during Climb to Safety though.

the JJ tunes Panic covers that I can think of are:

Climb to safety (snore)
North (eh)
Chainsaw City
Second Skin (pretty cool song)

I've never really listened to much of Jerry and the jackmormans to make an opinion of his other stuff.

Saw Stockholm Syndrome at Tips about 5 or 6 years ago, decent show. Also saw Jerry and some backing band at Chelseas in BR about 8 years ago. Not as impressed that night.

He sings like he's constipated, if that makes sense. All in all, I would not want him to be a full timer in my favorite band. The pop-ins are fine though.

What I learned in this thread:

people don't like North

and the saying "i'm heading for the bump stall"

Look, I don't think any of us (Panic fans) would be the same if we never came across Houser. He was that crunch that made me fall in love with that band. Of course the songs of that era don't sound "as good". With that said, they sound a whole lot better than when George was on guitar.

At the end of the day, I still get to see a few shows a year by a band playing all of my favorite songs from my golden years. No more, no less.

I can't wait for Halloween in Asheville

Who said anything about him joining the band? That would be a horrible idea.

My point was that JB's post Mikey music is offensive to their past. It's awful and It's not worth listening to. If they are going to pretend to not be a nostalgia act, they need to have guys like Jerry Joseph and Danny Hutchins WRITING all the songs.

North is a good tune, i do seem to catch it about every other show I go to though.

I guess I should clarify when I say I don't want Jerry as a full-timer... i dont want JJ as a full-time in any capacity. The Right Reverend writing all the songs for WSP is a ludicrous idea and you know it will never happen. That would just be stupid.

By all accounts the new album Panic is releasing is good and - GASP!!!!- JB may even have some songwriting credits on it... wrap your brain around that, guy.

Panic still puts on a badass show in my opinion , so for me and mine, the boys will be supported until they shut'r down for good.

I did. He was rumored to be in consideration for lead after Mikey died. What I heard is that Schools was pushing for him but the other members thought he would be too strong a personality.

So Panic's success is built on 5% of the songs they play? That's about the %age of Bloodkin/JJ songs to all songs.

I heard that Mikey recommended Sam Holt prior to passing. Any truth to that?

I never heard that Mikey recommended him but Sam was the one I wanted. Sam was Mikey's guitar tech for many years and knew all of the licks and songs the way Mikey played. although he played a little bit on stage after Mikey died, I don't think the band thought he was ready for the big time--he just didn't have the experience. I think he tried to hone his skills with his own band while George was around but when George was fired, Jimmy was available and got tapped instead.

Second set with Sam Holt 2002

his lead on driving is more like Houser than anyone else. You have to realize this link was his first time on the big stage playing.

He didn't play again until 2005. Here is Sam on NYE in ATL on the encore: 12/31/05 encore with Sam

then Sam and John Keane sat in a bunch with Bramblett on horns all through 2006. I actually enjoyed this combo.

Here are a bunch of shows to listen to judge for yourself and hear the transition the band was making:

Saw Sam and Outformation at Chelseas a few years back and also at a post jazz fest jam in Nola in 08. I like him, seems like a good guy.

People can talk shite all they want, but at this time and place Jimmy is the right man for the job!

Thanks for the links, I'll listen to them this evening after work.

That was in interesting transition period between George and Jimmy

Sam and Keene for all intensive purposes just held Jimmy's spot. That said, everyone I knew f'n loved those shows. And that's understandable...it was very refreshing coming from the George era. Jimmy is the right man for the job, period.

And it's laughable anyone believes Jerry Joseph was tapped to be "the guy". I've also never heard Mikey wanted Sam. If fact, it's the contrary. He wanted Sam to go off and do his own thing, because he thought the world of him. Houser is the one who convinced Sam to leave the crew and start Outformation.

Yea, now that you say that, a friend of mine who is a Sam fanatic once told me that Mikey did want him to go do his own thing since he thought so highly of his play.
