Throws a lot of love in the direction of Sturgil Simpson and goes onto say about today's country music:

"I can't tell what they're doing," says The Hag. "They're talking about screwing on a pickup tailgate and things of that nature. I don't find no substance. I don't find anything you can whistle and nobody even attempts to write a melody. It's more of that kids stuff. It's hot right now, but I'll tell you what, it's cooling off."

Preach, Merle.

Going to Denver in November for a bud's bachelor party. Sturgill is playing two nights same weekend. He's my favorite country artist now, along with Bingham.

Merle speaks truths.

Country music sounds better when sung by an alcoholic pill popper.

I'd say yea, but it's actually better sung by someone who used to be an alcoholic pill popper.

Indeed. Saw him at jazz fest. He's got the chops on the axe, great voice, and the story of his life to mirror his lyrics. Real deal.

True. Country music and to some degree, rock are the white mans blues. You gotta pay some dues, son.

Merle > Waylon and it's not even close

1. George Jones
2. Hank Sr.
3. Merle Haggard

4. The rest

If you hit the seek button, Country radio is now the same bait & switch that used to be reserved to Christian stations. The only difference is the second you settle in on a few bars of what seems like rock you hear "truck" instead of "Jesus".

The only thing worse than all that canned country is the thought of these people trying to "do" Merle and Waylon and those guys. You either have that or you don't. One Sturgill every ten years is about the best you can hope for. I mean how much outlaw is there when you have an iphone and a fb page and watch HGTV.
