Both bands headlined Woodstock. (Each band was paid 7,500 each for this)

What band do you think was better?

Big fan of both. JA gets the nod. I continue to listen to many of their songs, many of which are not well known. Only a couple of CCR's have lasted as well.

Which version of Jefferson? Starship or Airplane?

All but one CCR album has lasted well.

I liked Airplane's variety of music better but I have always loved Creedence. They were one of the first bands I really got into.

JA, they had better musicians and it wasn't even close. Hell, Nicky Hopkins even played piano for them at Woodstock and other gigs.

Overall - CCR and it's not even close.

At Woodstock - JA. Hell, CCR wouldn't even let them use their footage for the film.

Jorma Kaukonen's a better lead player than John Fogerty was, Jack Casady was leaps and bounds a better bass player than Stu Cook. The Airplane had more success in the variety of styles they played augmented by great vocalizations on the part of Marty Balin and Grace Slick.

Quite simply, the Airplane was a better group whereas CCR was a one-man show the moment John joined.

Jefferson Airplane -vs- Creedence Clearwater Revival

Sort of an odd comparison to make.

Jefferson Airplane is one of the pioneers of psychodelic rock, while Creedence Clearwater Revival championed swamp and roots rock.

As much as I like each artist, both are honestly not top contenders for best Woodstock performance.

Still, you have to give the nod to CCR. Their quick arrival and departure have created a cult-like status for them, while Jefferson Airplane withered into nothingness when they morphed into the musical abomination know as Jefferson Starship. History has looked much more favorably upon the former as opposed to the latter.

Two completely different bands. I like Jefferson Airplane and their sound. But Creedence is, always has been and always will be one of my favorite bands.

CCR didn't want their performance released and Jefferson Airplane ultimately released theirs as an album - The Woodstock Experience.

I have watched both and didn't think CCR's was that bad. Jefferson Airplane somehow got through theirs wasted - as was most everyone at the festival, but damn Grace Slick and Marty looked wiped out. Airplane band actually sounded pretty good with Jack Casady in the groove.
