CCR is in the conversation for Top 5 band of all time.
Love CCR but not quite

Two great bands; you can't go wrong no matter which you choose. If I were stranded on a desert island with one band's catalog to listen to, I'd take the Airplane, but not because they're any better than CCR.

And with the Airplane you also get Hot Tuna.

Jefferson Airplane - 11 votes
CCR - 9 votes
Very close. (As I expected)
I'm going to have to chalk 1 more up for Airplane. (My vote) But it's very close. White Rabbit puts um over the top.

I have seen both groups live in their early manifestations. CCR definitely tighter and more musical. JA had a very carefree edge to them that made them fun to watch but their studio stuff definitely better than live.
Favorite JA song :
Ballad of You & Me & Pooneil

psychodelic days of Jefferson Airplane, very enjoyable.

I hold bands that are actually bands in higher esteem than those that are one guy and the rest merely competent sidemen, which is what CCR was. Love the songs but that was their whole MO, whereas the Airplane was a cohesive, whole unit.

I always wondered why CCR seemed to have a reverence for Louisiana in their music, songs like "Proud Mary" and "Born on the Bayou."
I figured someone in their band was from Louisiana.
Turns out, after hearing an interview with the band, that when they were forming, they were working at a shipyard in San Francisco. The guys who were training them had come from a shipyard in New Orleans. That was where they learned the intricacies of the blues and southern rock sound.
Pretty cool.

Do you consider Cream and The Jimi Hendrix Experience to be in the same category ?
Posted on 8/20/16 at 10:20 pm to OldTigahFot
LOL no because Cream had the best musicians in England in it and Mitch and Noel were absolutely fantastic at their instruments to supplement Jimi.

CCR had at least 6 great albums: their first self titled recording, Bayou Country, Green River, Willie & The Poor Boys, Cosmo's Factory, and Pendulum.
Their seventh album, Mardi Gras, was weak and marked the end of this superb ensemble.
