That explains why his solo career has skyrocketed while Bruce and Baker promptly disappeared.

I admire bruce and baker a lot for not profiting off great black blues and reggae artists' music. They created a great band and left it at that.

Lol...Clapton couldn't buy enough mansions to hide from those two.

I'm compelled to add to this discussion with a reminiscence from my band's guitarist he shared with me via email just this morning, in commemoration of Clapton's 72nd birthday:
quote:

Clapton was the first “real” concert I saw. It was April 1979. Muddy Waters opened for him. It was General Admission and we arrived very early to get up front. We were literally at the barrier in front of the stage. Muddy Waters sat on a chair and played the blues. After a long intermission, too long to simply be resetting the stage, Eric Clapton took the stage standing directly in front of me. The first thing I noticed, and the lasting impression, was that Eric Clapton had pissed his pants. The faded blue jeans only accentuated the spreading piss patch blooming before my eyes. I tried to ignore it. To this day it’s the thing I remember most about the concert, and not in a good way.
FYI, Clapton was 34 at the time. Wonder if old age has improved his bladder control any (I'm guessing not).

Not doing heroin and drinking like a fish have probably done more.

Shows you the circus that must have been the late 70's. There is no extra pants back there? A manager or stage manager didn't stop him? Or was Clapton off the rails like Ozzy back in their heydays?

Today is Clapton's birthday. Happy birthday, Eric... apparently you sucked at guitar.

Most people in this thread saying he sucked couldn't make a G chord if you gave them a chart...gotta love TD.

Based on my friend's recollections, only he and his friends had the, um, 'vantage point' to see that Clapton had wet 'em.

In fact his theory is that the extra time between Muddy's set and Clapton's arrival was spent waking him up, and that the pants-pissing occurred between the green room and the stage.
