Guys, Eric Clapton absolutely fricking melted every guitar player on that stage (with the exception of Schon) and it wasn't even close.

Even as recently as his 70th birthday concert when joined by John Mayer for a rendition of "Pretending ", Mayer took a pretty long solo followed by Clapton who leveled the stage with only a 45 second solo, Mayer's jaw was hanging open in the middle of the solo.

It's insulting to even mention Clapton's name in the same sentence as John Mayer.

Mayer is the goat of our generation

Only a top 10 album of all time. But that was certainly his zenith. He hated the whole guitar God thing because he fancied himself a blues purist. There are two possibilities when you reach the artistic heights of Layla. You keep on burning the candle like that and you die, or you get straight and become really frickin milquetoast. He's probably pretty happy to be alive, but yeah, his music definitely got boring.

Here are two examples of Eric Clapton post Layla/ Derek and the Dominoes era of his "boring" career.

Eric Clapton - Journeyman - Full Album Remastered

Music legend Eric Clapton has reunited with famed producer Glyn Johns for his 23rd studio album 'I Still Do,' on Bushbranch / Surfdog Records. Clapton and Johns most famously worked together on Clapton’s iconic 'Slowhand' album, which is 3x-platinum and topped charts globally. The 12-track record contains some original songs written by Clapton including "Spiral."

Are you asking me to compare the capability and hands of a 70 year old man Vs a 30something dude in his prime?

That explains why his solo career has skyrocketed while Bruce and Baker promptly disappeared.

Exactly
Talent is evident by popularity
and Ginger Baker isn't famous anymore because he isn't a great drummer

I know.

He's a blues player. Any old black dude with a hollow body Gibson that you can name influenced him. Not about number of notes. "Angry bee" was mentioned. BB King can play same string at same fret and with bending and pressure could make it sound about 10 different ways. Clapton blended that into rock.
