I saw him about 3-4 months ago in Fort Worth. I'm a big DAC fan and have seen him prob. 5-6 times over the years, but unfortunately as a performer he is a shell of himself. He can't hit the high notes anymore so just sings parts of songs merged together and tells stories. I consider him a legend but wouldn't go back to see him again at this point. On a side note, his son plays guitar with him now which is pretty cool.

The AC thing goes way back. He always said that his true fans would sweat or freeze there arse off in the cold to come see him.

On a side note, the song about his woman running off with a n....... Is hilarious if gou havent beard it. Used to be on the juke box at the Brown Door in Hammond.

Props for the Brown Door reference.

Especially loved Tuesday night $2 pitcher beer night

Saw him at Texas Club back in 03/04.

I like a lot of his stuff, but that night I gave that motherfricker two thumbs down.

I posted this in the MB thread...

I've saw him a couple times. Not a great show, but interesting for sure.

Last time he started the show with a Waylon medley. He played about 10 Waylon songs in 5 minutes. He'd sing a verse and the chorus and go to the next song. The band had a tough time keeping up with what he was doing. He played some Pantera, rapped a bit, and then played some hippie music with his Janis Joplin-looking wife dancing around the stage with a tambourine looking like she was on hallucinogens.

I enjoyed it, but don't go expecting to hear all his hits.

The dude is right, I had forgotten about his rapping...talk about bad music

I am telling you DAC is about the most throwed off MFer you will ever see.

why the frick would he want the AC off??

He claims the ac messes up his vocal cords. He's a weird cat for sure, but I'll be there. We should have a table right in front of the stage.

I would agree with that. Dude is definitely off his rocker and has been that way a long time. The texas country music documentary, Heartworn Highways had a segment on him and he was crazy right when he was starting out.

He can sing and write a song though.

Like I said on the music board, I've seen him abunch of times. He's pretty hit or miss as far as a good show. Depends on his mood. And he's a moody motherfricker. Hopefully he does a mostly acoustic set, but I doubt it.

If you go, I'd advise bringing ear plugs, cause he plays pretty damn loud!

True story: in 1978, I was in the 8th grade. We had a dance at the old plantation inn on he corner of Bluebonnet and Airline, since torn down.

Me and a couple of buddies got tired of the dance shite and wandered around.

We came across a couple limos with DAC's photo on the side. It was parked next to his rooms - he had about 4 interconnecting rooms and about 8 guys and gals hanging out with him.

He invited us in and was very kind to us kids. Never heard of DAC before that, but never forgot him either. He wasn't quite as strange looking back then, and, although drunk, he was nice to us and he didn't need to be. We drank some whiskey and they laughed and joked (probably at us) but it was fun.

I can't say anything bad about the man, but I won't go to his concerts because I don't want to see how bad (of a drunk) he has become.

I've seen him 5-6 times at the Texas club..
Last time 3-4 years ago.

Years ago he was very good and entertaining, then a few years after that got into that rap stage. I never understood that from him. Then about 3-4 years ago he played and he had no voice at all, dude was coughing and spitting up shite during the middle of the songs.
Honestly I think he has just lost the voice he once had and seen his better days.

He once was in prison so he got used to living without AC. Its written into his contracts. Seriously.

He puts on a good show BUT what happens half the time is he shows up drunk off his arse, then after a few songs he literally walks off the stage and doesn't come back. He also might start an hour late a he likes to go play at the casino.

Pretty cool. My Dad and Aunt have a similar story with Willie Nelson.

My Dad heard DAC at the Music Box in Gonzales when he was a kid. Said he'd never heard someone with a voice as strong. He said when we was warming up just his voice was rattling the walls.

He was actually married to a woman from Prairieville for a while.

DAC plays better music than JR but JR may be the best song writer of all-time!!

The shows are hit or miss. Often miss. But they're worth it for the people watching.
