Buddy just called with Eric Clapton tickets in Los Angeles. 9th row, airline hotel and transportation paid for. Just need to get off work tomorrow and Sunday. Two buddies said they would do it but then wives overrules them. I'm screwed.

I'd drop anything to see Clapton. I've had this album in my rotation for the last decade and it never gets old...ever.

Clapton is one of the best pickers alive. Even if he does like to cover other artists' work, he is amazing in my opinion.

Hey man, simmer down. I will type IB4 "overrated" in all of these threads. I reserve that right. Just like I reserve the right to drop $100 or so if he comes within a couple hundred miles of Houston. Lol.

That dude is one cool old fart.

I've seen him twice. Once, with no other guitarist or singer, was pedestrian. The other time he had Doyle Bramhall II and Paul Carrack with him, and it was super good. I think there's still a big part of that guy that enjoys being in an ensemble as much as leading a band. His MSG concert with Steve Winwood is often on my blu-ray player.

Clapton is one of the all time great musicians and guitar players. It is not debatable. To argue against that just demonstrates your ignorance and stupidity.

And EC's the first to say he's play other baws old worn out blues. Heard him say at one point in his life, if you didn't know Robert Johnson, then he didn't want anything to do with you. How many musicians can you name who didn't beg, borrow, or steal from what went on before them?

If not for Clapton most of the great old blues artist and their music would have remained unknown to the average listener. I am 63, and until I got into Clapton's music in high school the only thing I knew about blues was that a black guy named BB King did a song called "the thrill is gone", and that was more than any of my friends knew about blues.

I feel like this is the type of venue to see him. I saw him at Jazzfest and was underwhelmed, mainly because I couldn't hear shite, especially his acoustic set.

I wish all older acts would do this. When you top 70, it is time to take it inside. Stadiums are done. Rolling Stones would be AWESOME in a small arena or theater. Do 3-4 nights in one place and move on.

I remember seeing McCartney sing to close the London Olympics. He was lost up there soundwise. A sparrow trying to sing in a hurricane.

Clapton is not doing May stadium shows anymore. I think that's good. Should only play venues that suit him now. Under 10,000 people and or more people but if it is an acoustically perfect setting. True concert halls. Radio City. Albert Hall. Vegas type venues.

Never happen. But imagine a Led Zepplin mini reunion. Those 3 guys. You want to see them drowned out in a cavernous dome stadium. Or do you want to see them in an arena or smaller. Never understood why acts couldn't do 3-4 nights in certain venues. Then move onto the next venue.

Clapton is a better blues guitarist than rock guitarist.

There, I said it.

Clapton was legit with Cream and Derek/Dominos. Not a huge fan of his solo work.
