I know most Pink Floyd fans credit Roger Waters as being the genius behind PF and no doubt he was a genius but to me Gilmour was the driving force behind the Pink Floyd sound.
Rick Wright was also a hugely underrated part of what made PF special. Wright's keyboard on top of Gilmour's guitar starting at the 1:22 mark always gives me the chills

i cant stand Waters . IMO Pink Floyd was better off without him moving forward due to him becoming another one of these "political experts"--shut up and play your bass .

Sorrow is probably the most underrated Floyd song ever. And probably the best song I have ever heard live.
I have been a floyd fan since I was 14 years old. And that was a long time ago. I have been through the battles with them including Sid. Sid gets a ton of credit for Floyds beginnings and Waters gets all the credit for the development but make no mistake, Pink Floyd would never have been what they were without David Gilmour. Probably the best thing for them going forward was to lose Sid and gain Gilmour
He is my GOAT and nothing will ever change that.

One plays bass, can’t sing and says polarizing shite.
The other has the cooler British accent, can sing, and WAILS on guitar.
I’m taking number 2.

For me the magic in Gilmour is listening to him take studio music that is great and turning it into spectacular live performances. “Fat Old Sun” from the Gdansk live album is my current favorite. He trades his acoustic at the end for that modified Fender Esquire and tears up that solo. Really breathes some rock into a fairly laid back pastoral English song.

The Gdansk concert is my go to album to just plug it in and listen. Love watching the concert too.
That version of echoes is the best ever. The last 5 mins is a thing of beauty.

Gilmore is an incredible guitarist and singer. Rogers is a great songwriter. Their whole was greater than the sum of their parts.

Exactly. I appreciate their music since but it's not the same.

Gilmour - the anti-shredder. The guy (the band, really) who taught the rock world to appreciate the space between notes.
As a lyricist, Waters had few peers for that era of 1960s/1970s rock and roll - Lennon and Taupin are about the only ones off the top of my head with both the volume of work and a large audience. On the music side, Roger was kind of stunted both as a player (although he bordered on great at times) and composer, but it was really his vision that drove the Floyd from Syd's collapse until his departure (The Final Cut).
The typically forgotten (at least by casual fans) heart and soul of Pink Floyd. His compositions held the albums together and he was underrated as a harmony vocalist. His personal issues ultimately got him on the wrong side of Roger - had that not happened, I think they might have actually gone on to make a couple of more albums as a foursome in the 1980s.

I love "On an Island" as far as solo work goes.

I was personally done with Waters after the Rolling Stone interview (post breakup) where he cried...."that's my pig up there, that's my wall."
I never gave two shits about the theatrics or concept.
It was always about the music.

Wifey & I 2nd that! For me, loved it since came out when Sr in high school. She was 13 when Wall came out (same yr I was born) & ever since Floyd was her favorite band. Got her the Division Bell 2 sided vinyl couple yrs ago, and it blew her away that she never knew it existed & how great it was. It’s right there with her original Dark Side & Wall vinyls as favorites in our collection.
