Superdome 1977ish. I don't remember the year but I do remember the awesomeness of Van Halen, Doubies and The Rolling Stones.

Wow, just wow.

Rocket From The Crypt, a bunch of times in a few different places...

Sonic Youth at the Howlin' Wolf was top notch, as well.. '95

Edit: Lucinda Williams on the heels of the CWOAGR release.. '98 at Antone's in Austin...

Pearl Jam - UNO Lakefront Arena 1993. It was the first of three New Orleans shows. They played "Tremor Christ" for the first time. I think I was levitating the whole time.

Smashing Pumpkins - Lollapalooza 94 at Tad Gormley. They were showing fight scenes from "Enter the Dragon" on a screen, then the band came out and just ripped it. They sounded so massive and heavy.

The worst was Aerosmith in '78'. The sound quality was terrible.

Was the Aerosmith concert in Atlanta? I agree it was terrible. You could talk during the concert and hear every word that was said.

Wasn't that on the grounds at UNO?

I have 3 that rank so close I can't choose between them:

1(a): The Beatles at City Park Stadium (now Tad Gormley);

1(b). Jimi Hendrix at City Park Stadium (now Tad Gormley); and

1(c): The Allman Brothers first concert at the Warehouse.

Honorable Mention:

The second Atlanta Pop Festival (1970) and

The New Orleans Pop Festival in Prairieville (1969).

Those METERS shows I saw between 89 and 93 or so, before Leo split, at Tip's. Drunk, stoned, and sweaty (no A/C), everybody gettin' the f*ck down. Russell was no Zigaboo but damn were they funky. Still have some bootleg tapes of those shows that I break out during mardi gras and jazzfest. Then Stoltz replaced Leo and the magic sort of died for me...

Bill Monroe at the HOB in 95 I think it was. Just wanted to see a legend that was not long for this world. He played great and even had enough energy to do a little bit of his signature buck dancing. Less then a year later he was gone...

There are others. Don't think it's possible to pick best.

Some favorite memories:

Streetlight Manifesto at the House of Blues with one of my best friends. We had a blast and then met the band after the show. Great memory.

Pearl Jam at Jazz Fest. I almost got smoked with a runaway drumstick towards the end of the performance.

ZOSO at the Varsity, was a spur of the minute decision to check out their show after the planned activities on my second date with my now SO of 4 years had taken less time then I'd anticipated. She spent most of the concert poking fun at the lead singer's Robert Plant impersonation and his ridiculous pants.

Flight of the Conchords at the Santa Barbara Bowl. It was my senior trip. I had just graduated high school, my middle brother had just graduated from LSU. He had just gone to the beach for spring break, so we chose to go out west instead to Los Angeles. Arj Barker opened up. It was unbelievably funny to watch him at first because there was a whole 2 rows of children right in the front. He was really unsure of himself when he got to the profanity-laden punchlines. It was really great when he very gingerly edged into his first "f%$k", unsure if it was ok. When he saw the children laughing, and more importantly their parents and chaperons, he loosened up and started spreading out his profanity like sprinkles on a sunday. Then, Bret and Jermaine came out in Robot Costumes to sing "Too Many D&@ks on the Dance Floor". It was a great night.

Van Halen, December 7, 1991. Had decent seats on the side. Ran into some girls I knew from school who had an empty seat on the front row. They upgraded me. High fives from Sammy, Eddie and Mikey. Glorious night.

Have also greatly enjoyed Clapton, the Eagles and AC/DC in the last few years. I've been on a mission to complete my bucket list of concerts. But that night in Baton Rouge was the best.

i was at that Van Halen show in 1991. Alice in Chains opened and Layne Staley really got some boos once he started talking about David Duke.
