shite...

Actually did have some amp issues. Called roger at musicdirect and he talked me through it. One of the screws that held the connections came lose. I fixed myself. That's some shite that will piss you off!

But man.... Marco has said many times, this better equipment isn't made to be tossed around by a UPS guy...

The box with my amp was left on top of my trash can under my carport. It does make me question our package carriers a bit...

Hm. So I bent over to turn my receiver (functions as my pre) on and change the input, and I touched the rack that it's all sitting on. I got a loud (meaning it sounds about as loud as the music which plays from the other side) crackle from the "broken" side. Short. Lasts about half a second. Reproducible when the amp is touched/barely moved. I did this with nothing feeding into the amp (pre was off).

So unfortunately, I really do think that it's going to be an internal connection to the terminal.

Any advice? (Other than calling Odyssey on Monday)

Update: I gave a little nudge to the connectors (where they go into the amp chassis) and I've got sound again!

If it stays, I'm going to be awfully happy.

Here is the rack. I need to re-center everything and do a little cable management, but I'm scared to jiggle the connection loose again, so it may stay off center for a bit.

Not a huge dead head guy...

But found Jerry Garcia's Symphonic Celebration featuring Warren haynes playing Jerry's guitar "Tiger" at red rocks on "on demand"

Was pretty good.

Doc... I'd say make a call, they may be able to instruct on how to tighten up said connection.

Not that it would be as simple a fix as mine.... but all I did was unscrew the chassis and tighten down the screw holding the connector to the frame. Once I did that everything tightend up and I put the chassis back on... hooked the spade up and the only thing missing a beat is my ol lady catching some sleep eye every now and then...

Doc...is anything physically loose on the back of the amp? The speaker terminals? Any RCA connections?

Every connection point should be tight. If you wiggle any connector and hear a crackle or lose sound, there is probably a solder joint that came off or loose in shipping.

If so, you can send it back to Mr. Klaus and I am sure he will expedite it quickly back to you. A solder joint takes literally 5 minutes to fix.

But either way, it does need to be looked at.

...and chrome is the tits!!

Doc...

When you pass the boards and start making MD dollars, you can easily match the chrome faceplate of the Odyssey with Burmester--one of Germany's finest!

davidlsu,

I have 2 copies of the MSG 1995...but both of mine were bought on Record Store Day when it was released, so they are both numbered (one is still sealed).

The box was re-released a couple months later, but aren't numbered.

Same with Phish "Junta"--the RSD release has a signed lithograph as part of the LP set and is numbered, while the re-release a year later doesn't have the litho or number.

Same for Phish "Lawn Boy".

"Rift" was released at Phish's NY Magnaball show--5000 pressings on blue/white splattered vinyl--the re-issue, available at stores and online, is on black vinyl.

Not even a little.

I originally noticed it when I bumped my rack with no input. When I mess with it now, it doesn't go back off, crackle, or come in and out at all. I did move it around a bit just to see- still playing loud and strong.

I'll be ringing him up on Monday morning to explain the situation. I don't doubt he will want to take it back and give it a look-over. He does such a good job- I know he will be upset with the shipping process. I can tell from reviews online and his packaging (he literally sent a small piece of chocolate inside his hand-put-together binder of Odyssey's history, breaking in the amp, etc.

Fun story: fiancee came over for the first time since I got the new table last weekend. I made her sit in the prime listening position for a spin of "The Shape of You" (yeah, she's a little basic), and within 90 seconds, she commented on just how good the turntable and the setup as a whole sounded. Specifically, "oh my gosh. I can hear all four different voices that are singing." So Everytime she has been skeptical of a system upgrade, she has been blown away by the result. I'm hoping by the time she makes it back to town that I'll have at least 20 hours on the Odyssey and really give her something to hear. It's still a little hot and cold with some really harsh, shrilly sounds from time to time, but the soundstage is already really starting to shine.

And holy moly, that chrome! I'm not even going to check prices right now. It will only depress me. But one day, I hope to have a F/WAR and salary high enough to send these B&W to a secondary system and get something a little nicer.

Yeah, Burmester is up there with the big boys...a full Reference Line rig (sans speakers) is well over $200k...and a Top Line rig is over $100k.

Their affordable, entry "Corona" line is $10k for the integrated amp and $10k for the CD player/DAC...but it is well built, powerful, and really heavy gear.

But it seems a steal to add it to a 911 Carrera at only $4700!!!

Well, so far I've got her locked into
1) me
2) a roadster (check the 911 Carrera)
3) "those alien speakers" (any of the Marlin-headed b&w line) or "the robot ones" (Wilson's line). She's of course never heard either, but those are "cute."

Next up: chrome everything. Shouldn't be hard. She's either easily impressionable or has what I would at least consider good taste. Her first comment when she saw my new rack (Pangea) was that we should get a nice one that matched the TV console.

I'll tell you this though, despite your relative recommendation away from the Odyssey preamps, a matched set would be pretty damn awesome looking.

ETA- I'm an idiot. The 911 seats 4. Guess we'll have to get the Burmester in chrome for the living room.

Well, 2 normals and 2 midgets (barely). I can fit a soft briefcase behind the driver's seat with no spare room. A child over 5 years old would be pretty cramped in the back. The back is only useful for carrying a small amount of extra crap that won't fit in the front trunk.

But it is fast like a mofo...(911S)

...and if you are looking for a fun, never gets old, driving machine-- nothing, nothing beats a 911. I use mine as a daily driver and love turning the ignition every morning.

Walls have been taped and floated and the primer coat of paint is up (3 coats total). There will be 10" crown moulding to offset the wall/ceiling colors as well as trim on the ceiling (to add depth).

The bottom 3' of the walls will have a whitish colored wainscoting around the entire room--that begins this week as well as cabinet installation.

It looks a little dark now, but the windows are blocked and there is only the can lights on now--more rail lighting will be installed--and the 3' of wainscoting will lighten it up a bit.
