David, get Onzow Zerodust to remove dirt from your needle, works like a charm.

Bigpapi, I have a rega rp6 and tried out an MP110 on it. After tweaking the setup numerous times, I still had issues with tracking. I read up on it and the recommendation is to get shims for the tone arm because of the cart's height. I switched out the cart for a Denon DL 110 and have had zero issues with that cart. After a quick search, it looks like the planar 3 might have similar issues. Might want to try another cart. Otherwise, it is a great turntable.

Rega owners: Do you notice a hum at all? I've read about some issues with Rega decks, specifically P1 & P2 that are purportedly related to the method of grounding Rega uses. I'm sitting on go to pull the trigger on a previously owned Planar 3, and was just curious.
Thanks for any info.

I use a TT-PSU with my RP6. No issues with hum. I think the TT-PSU works with the planar 3, might want to get the upgrade if you go with the P-3.

I've added some of the groovetracer upgrades with great results - delrin platter, reference subplatter, and counterweight.

Anyone following along:
My Odyssey Khartago Extreme (with most the upgrades) should ship on Monday or Tuesday. He was waiting on a black faceplate. I asked what he had in stock. He had silver and chrome. I wound up paying a little extra for a chrome faceplate. I have no idea how this is going to look, but he says he loves it, and I am excited for a new toy to show up next week.

Downside: I work literally every night next week.

shite... I've been home after 7 every night this week. Looking forward to getting home early and cranking out some tunes and knock back a whiskey drink or 2.

Been reading up on the odyssey amps. Looks like some quality stuff! Wonder how that would roll with my Vandys.... already have the quad that I could use as a preamp. Just no idea how they would "sound" together.

I'm saying this b/c I really enjoy the bass out of speakers, but I kind of have to turn the knob for it to really thump. The bass is really clean, tight and it will hit way lower notes than I expected from that size of a speaker. I guess "warm" is another good adjective. I've been playing with the placement of them, but it doesn't seem to change it too much from where I have them now. That being said, I'm an idiot and it's probably the way it's supposed to be and I'm sure has something to do with my room.
Also, I'm not positive how many hours I have on them, but I'm assuming I don't have 50hrs of break in on them yet. They seem to be putting out a "fuller, maybe more vibrant" sound the more I listen.

Need to pull out the manuals again. I have some new furniture and sit a good bit higher now. Get them adjusted a bit on the stands.

A solid state amp will almost always control the woofer better than a tube amp, however, a tube amp will usually give a fatter mid and high.

The higher the number of the damping factor of an amp, the tighter and more controlled the bass (usually). The damping factor is a measure of how quickly the amp can "start and stop" the motion of a speaker cone. The better the start and stop, the tighter the bass...sorta...it complex.

Moving along!

So the odyssey I assume is a solid state? No issues with quad at all... everyone I put in front of it loves the sound. shite I love it.... it's phenomenal.
So, the quad will give you better mids and highs and I'd get more ummph with an odyssey? I really like the detail I have, don't want to lose that.

You could go tube for an amp.

Depending on budget, you could pick up a used Cary V-12R for $1700 or so. It is 120 watts of EL-34 vacuum tube power...a classic amp.

A real beauty too...

...or the Cary CAD-120S---the newer version of the V-12R. They can be had used for around $2500.

First layer of drywall is done. They come back tomorrow to do the soundproofing "Green Glue" coating and add the second layer of drywall, and then Sunday to tape and float. Hopefully Monday will get textured, Wednesday will see the first coat of paint and wainscoting starts.

It was stagnant for about 5 weeks while I waited on contractors...it is finally starting to look like something now!
