Because the show is just ok.

It is sorely lacking for sea-faring action, which could really lift it above the mediocre writing. This I'm sure is a budget constraint. The reason it's still worth watching and suffering through several consecutive actionless episodes of stilted phony dialogue and endless backstory, is the promise of some badass sailing and cannon-firing action. The payoffs however are few and far between.

The script sounds like it was written by 9th graders, which is at least a 2 grade improvement over the very middle-school level writing of Spartacus.

To mention this in the same breath as Fargo, which is the most well-written and sophisticated story telling since BB, is just a travesty.

I really like the series.

The gay twist was a pretty good historically accurate way to disgrace a british naval officer and drive him to become a "pirate." I think the gay love scenes were a bit over the top because I don't like watching dudes get it on, but it wasn't like there weren't gay people in britain that had to stay in the closet for political reasons. The rest of the series is well done IMO. I just FF thru the gay shite, but at least they balance it out with hot whores.

I watched most of season 1 and made a decision to bail out. It had its moments and qualities, but there is more good stuff available on HBO/SHO and Netflix than I have time for. It got culled.

Love this series, but it does get ridiculous. I can see the gay thing as to why he became Flint, but it did get a little awkward. The Blond drives me nuts, she is all over the place. The other lesbians, etc. it all seems a little forced to explain how women could have survived amongst the men and how men lived amongst men on ships for so long. Overall like the show though.

Seems like only a handful of posters on here watch it. I think it's a really underrated show and I really like the plot lines this season.

How's the new season? I'm recording them until I finish Breaking Bad.

I've liked this year so far even though its been a bit slow (though I guess it always is).

The storm was pretty well done and is worth checking out the behind the scenes stuff to see how they did it.

I really like the current season. Silver's character arc has been amazing and Flint has become a Shakespearean-like character. Some interesting stuff happening with Vane too.

First episode I ever watched was the season 3 premier. Now I'm hooked. Going to start binging the first two seasons this weekend.

Showtime, Cinemax, and Starz have both been kicking HBO's arse recently.

Yeah silver has slowly became one of my favorite characters. Even though the Madame is hot she gets on my damn nerves. Flint is still a badass. Vane is a much better character without his love interest. And they have Blackbeard making his appearance. If he doesn't become an absolute badass I'm going to be disappointed.

I think the main reason this show doesn't get more attention is because it is on Starz. Which I don't believe most people have, at least I know I don't. I website I use would post the new episodes every week but they no longer do that. Any tips on how I can watch the new season?

that gay reveal. Hopefully season 3 just ignores it,

So far so good. New season is good, and leading up to some big things.

Season 3 has been incredible, the latest episode has been my favorite so far.

I liked the latest as well although it is more of "setting the table" episode.

Jack Rackham has become a great character. Anne Bonny, not so much. She walks around with a constant sneer on her face, but is not a compelling character since she quit being a badass.

For some reason I find myself wishing someone would shoot Mr. Dufrane.

I'm almost through with season 2, and as to the people here who have disparaged the writing, I have to wonder if they've even watched the show at all. The level of intrigue in outstanding, and the acting on most counts is simply amazing.

I can't get over how much Starz has put into the production of this show, on both the sets and costumes. They've really done themselves proud.

It's one of my favorite shows right now. It and Vikings on at the same time is fantastic.
