Why doesn't Black Sails get more love on here?

Season 3 Trailer

Season 1's main criticism was that it was slow, but that was because they had to properly build the world of Black Sails for the audience. I think people saw Michael Bay as a producer and automatically assumed it was explosions and titties. The show is far from that, the cast is damn solid and the writing from week to week is excellent. Season 1 was solid, but season 2 was the real payoff. Easily the best show to air in 2015 outside of maybe Fargo.

The gratuitous nudity is on par with Sparticus. Thumbs up for me.

It's an alright series. But I wouldn't go this far.

I watched the first season and loved it, but I got behind a little on season two and stopped watching. Thanks for reminding me that I need to finish it still.

Probably because most TV viewers don't have access to it since it only appears on a premium channel, Starz. HBO has a reputation for quality programming due to its legacy of hits. As such, I would guess it is the most popular premium channel; Starz, not so much.

Starz & CineMax are still struggling to rebrand themselves (CineMax dropped showing softcore). For example, a show like "The Knick" or "Banshee" would probably have more chatter if it wasn't on CineMax.

NIH, haven't finished the season. Saw the premiere and haven't watched since.

The filming has taken a lot away from it. If they had a higher budget it would be much better... Oh and the gay scene. WTF was that.

My wife and I really enjoy Black Sails, but Flint being gay seems completely unnecessary. That being said, I'm still on board whenever Season 3 comes out

This.

I like pirate shows but the first episode bored me to tears.

I always had a hard time paying attention to any scene Flint was with that woman or in the flashbacks so I was completely caught by surprise at that gay reveal. Hopefully season 3 just ignores it, because the rest of the show is fantastic.

It started slow, but it's been pretty great since about halfway thru the first season. Definitely looking forward to it starting again.

I really like it. Agree that the gay pirate things was simply PC add-in.

The last few episodes of the last season were freaking phenomenal! The season finale was the best episode of all so far...

Unnecessary gay plot line aside, I love the show.

The gay plot was unnecessary I thought too. I did feel like he ended up involved with Miranda Barlow. I did notice in the season 3 trailer that flint makes a remark that they took his home and they took his woman, so maybe that plot twist is a thing of the past.

On the flip side of that, we never did actually see Peter Ashe die, so there is always the outside chance it will come back to haunt him...

Either way, I hope they can keep up some of the intensity from the last couple of episodes of season 2.

Agree. As soon as it was over I was "dang, now we have to wait!"
