I'll agree with:

Old School
Beerfest
The Hangover

Allow me to add:

Under.
Cover.
Brother.

so overrated IMO. It became popular for people to say "OMG this movie is so underrated and is more of a documentary about our future!" It's really not as smart of a movie as people like to pretend it is.

40 Year Old Virgin should be making more lists.

About 90% of you prefer Anchorman over Step Brothers? I feel like I am taking crazy pills!!!! WTF is wrong with you people?

I Agree with this :Kige:

Watched Anchorman about a month ago, got bored

Old School = Boring I cant help but think of the Animal House ripoffs
Animal House already owns this category

Cant believe NOBODY has mentioned Pineapple Express -Definite classic
Step Brothers - Yes
Talladega Nights - Yes
Superbad - Yes, coming of age comedy like D&C of 2000's (but not a ripoff)

Also popular for people to say "so overrated".

It's not a great movie but I enjoy it more than most candidates listed so far; it does have its moments. Just depends on your taste, as always.

40 Year Old Virgin
Anchorman
Grandma's Boy

Don't know if it would be considered a "comedy" in the true sense of the word, but I would cast a vote for Rushmore.

Man that was a classic. Where would you guys categorize the move "Life"? That movie also goes into one of my all time funniest movies.

With that said, it takes a lot for me to really consider a comedy a classic. For me, a movie is either an instant classic or a complete swing and miss.

I would put the Hang Over in there with classics of the past few years and maybe even SuperBad (if that meets the "last few years" category). Outside of that, I am usually disappointed with most comedies.

All your lecturing and then you lay this shite on us:

eta: and I like Pineapple Express

Anyways, I'm in the Step Brothers over Anchorman category, but I have learned over time that this is the minority view. The average person likes Anchorman more, go figure.

I'm really not sure that any of these will hold up over time though. Nothing in this thread screams classic to me. But, I guess it comes down to what is a classic. If it is a movie that the generation watching the films of the last decade or so will keep watching in the future, then yea some of these are classics. If it is a film that future generations will want to watch, eh, probably not.

Just kidding on those. But, for real to mix it up:

Zombieland
BORAT - kind of a polarizing movie, but it did make everyone talk funny for awhile. I like!
Team America

I really liked both Knocked Up and Role Models, but most people didn't. So, they aren't going to hit classic status.

Yea, sorry. Those just didn't seem like classics. But, hey, one mans unclassic is another mans classic!

This thread reminds me of that thread "sitcoms that were NEVER funny that lasted too long"... and everyone proceeded to name every sitcom for the last 20 years.

I mean some of these movies are going to be classics??? [granted some people might just be trollin]

Idiocracy
Funny People
Scott Pilgrim
MacGruber
Get Him to the Greek
Tucker and Dale vs. Evil
Hot Rod
Nacho Libre
Orange County
I Love You Man
etc.

Ok we got to draw a timeline somewhere. Mid 90's is recent? If we do 90's I might have 40 movies

No, you don't have to draw a line. The question is "What's the most recent Comedy..." not "What recent Comedy..."

If you don't think any of the last 12 years will be classics, then the "most recent" one will come from the 90's. Honestly, I think Office Space is primed to be the most recent at 1999, but Old School, Anchorman, and Super Troopers are getting a lot of deserved love.

ETA: and conversely if you think a movie that came out last year will become a classic, then that movie is the "most recent" one.

Zombieland was 2009, and I think it has a chance to be the "most recent."

Anchorman and zoolander are my vote... Two of my top 5 favorite comedies. My other 3 are from the 90s so I assume those can't be considered recent
