that is the old Military Channel

they just changed the name so they could also add law enforcement shows... like FBI Files type stuff... that's why the show "Gunslingers" is on AHC

Yup AHC. But I noticed some kind of BBQ dingusmasters grill-off show on there a couple days ago. I'm sure it was 4th-related, but I hope it wasn't a sign of them slipping down the reality shitter, too.

Discovery hit a home run with Deadliest Catch and American Chopper. History has been trying to respond ever since.
It's the same parent company.

well, they can't keep playing the same thing over and over. I enjoy American Pickers and Vikings.

This is an overlooked point. History Channel has always had those odd solid original broadcast documentaries, but at some point in the mid-2000's I remembered thinking that they were recycling material like crazy. Haven't really tuned in since then because I got tired of seeing the same "specials" aired over and over and because all their new broadcast promos strike me as ludicrous and totally unassociated with actual documented history.

Reality shows get tons of viewers and are a pretty good return on investment I'd imagine.

It's a shame, but reality shows are comparatively very cheap to make and people like mindless "entertainment" for whatever reason.

History went from 24/7 WWII documentaries to 24/7 reality. I'll watch neither.

Isn't History owned by A+E Networks and Discovery is owned by Discovery Communications?

Fake reality shows that involve people pretending to bring in cool historical items to a pawn shop get better ratings than a doc about Stalingrad.

I looked it up. It's NBC, so General Electric.

Must have been thinking of TLC.

It wasn't called Hitler Channel for nothing.

Modern Marvels was a fantastic show.

I think History's Mysteries was interesting too.

But ya, they had thousands of year to work with and rarely went beyond the 1940s.

H2 is better, but what do you want from a history channel? There is only so much history that you can program before it becomes reruns. I used to love the Discovery channel and TLC. I don't know what the frick they are about now, but The Learning Channel didn't used to mean learning how to dress by gay men (I have no problem with gay people, FTR). I'm sick of "reality" TV, and you have to be an idiot to think that shite isn't scripted.

I pretty much just watch sports or movies these days. I miss the days of MTV, when it was MTV.
