He was no Boobie Miles.
Boobie was a 5* and getting recruited by USC before the injuries.

I recently watched the first few episodes the other night and they definitely are hyped as the best team in the state
Then Street got hurt. They were the underdog to Voodoo in season 1, the only year they won a title.

Smash is definitely supposed to be a 5*
Yet he immediately starts doing roids to make a top 100 list

Mack fricking Brown was on the show right after he won the national title and Smash was talking about running shite at UT
Mack Brown was playing a random booster not Mack Brown.

Another question. Street was a Senior. Who was supposed to replace him the next year? Matt was an over-achiever who won but I can't see him as the QB in waiting for a team with championship aspirations.

Thought they just portrayed that poorly, same way the did with Chris Comer. Fans wouldn't know who they were but the team and coaches would, everybody acted like they found Matt/Chris out of the stands during the game.
In theory they could be planning to shift to a game manager who hands off to Smash/Riggins. Or Buddy was gonna recruit a hotshot to takes Matt's place.

Like I said, I recently watched the first few episodes. Smash doing roids doesn't happen until later in the season and even then, he tells the guy that makes the list he wants to be number 1, not just on the list.
Smash may be a 4* but hes a high 4* and bordering 5, not 3.

- It is insane that we are arguing the recruiting ranking about the fictional football player
- He starts roids in the 7th episode
- He literally asks the Grady Hunt if he's even going to make the list and Grady tells him to work on strength and size(that's a pretty good indication to me he's not making it)
- He's not a 5 star just based off logic. His size, assumed production(this was Street's offense and he split the backfield load with Riggins), and his eventual Jayru Campbell level character concerns
-What 4 or 5 star gets into a fight and his only offer left is an HBCU? And then they dropped him because he got hurt.
He was probably closer to Wendell in Varsity Blues as a recruit than Boobie Miles.

JD was overrated... he isn't even starting for Dillon in season 5

Smash commuted TMU, got suspended, lost his scholarships, committed to the HBCU, then walked on at ATM after rehab.
This. Goddamn casuals, he went to A&M not TMU.

Voodoo and McCoy were the only five stars in the show and that's a fact.
I am thinking Jason Street was a 5* as well.

Street was definitely a 5 star before the neck injury.

Also, it always got me that they were supposedly the best team in the state but EVERY win it seemed like came in the last second or they just got blown out of the water whenever they did lose haha.
I read an article that addressed this. Basically, Peter Berg said you can thank the network big wigs for that. NBC was always wanting less football games shown and when they were shown they needed to border absurdity in order to "keep the audience's interest". They were afraid that too much realistic football would alienate too many viewers.

Wonder if Smash became part owner of the Alamo Freeze after college?
