Has any show ever gotten more worse after its first season than Heroes?

The first season was just too good. Nowhere to go but downhill. The last season was painful to watch.

So which shows got better as they went on? I'll nominate The Sopranos. The last season was the best television I've ever seen by a mile.

Absolutely not. I am a Sopranos hater in general but I can't believe anyone could conclude that the show got better as it went along and the last season was a masterpiece.

Seinfeld comes immediately to mind.

Revolution may be too short lived to be in this thread but it was so bad initially I nearly stopped watching. Still not a compelling show but considerably better.

I expect Homeland to improve, I think it is trending upward. But it was pretty low, so it wouldn't take much.

I think it couldn't be more opposite.

I wouldn't want to put qualifiers a debate that I didn't start, but I think for the purposes of this thread, a show needs to have had more than 3 seasons to be considered.

Most shows get better from season 1 to season 2 just because of character development. But seeing improvement from season 2 on is tough. And once a show gets to season 4, it's really hard to stop a tail off.

The Office is a pretty good example. It started slow, improved steadily, then tailed off before rebounding and ending on a strong note.

I think Seinfeld was good from the start, but I thought the last season was the weakest.

Definitely Breaking Bad and The Sopranos...two of my favorite shows and just kept getting better and better.

...big jump in Parks and Rec between seasons 1 and 2.

This is a really good answer.

Also, I would submit Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. Both shows, while not terrible to start, got much better as the seasons went on.

I am really surprised no one has said South Park.

The first season especially has aged so poorly. It was amateur hour and such a relic of 90s. The humor has gotten so much more sophisticated.
