TV shows that got better in later seasons

We've seen a bunch of shows (heroes, prison break, Dexter, post-Zach Braff scrubs... to name a few) get much worse in later seasons.

To a lesser extent shows like The Wire (season five) and Homeland (everything after season 1) were a bit of a step down from their early seasons.

So which shows got better as they went on? I'll nominate The Sopranos. The last season was the best television I've ever seen by a mile.

Well from Season 1 (brilliant) to Season 2...Sports Night became better (as hard as that was to do).

Firefly also did.

I think later BSG, outside of the very very end, was even better than the first couple of Seasons.

breaking bad I truly believe got better every season. 4 and 5 may be a tie actually, but I think the order of greatness from 1 to 2 to 3 to 4/5 is legit.

Also seinfeld. The early seasons actually kinda sucked. From season about 3 on to the end got better.

How did Prison Break get worse? Every season was good.

For me it would have to be Breaking Bad. I just couldn't get into the first season. I'm pretty sure I watch the first few episodes several times because I'd start to watch it and lose interest. Then I'd have to watch it from the beginning because I forgot what happened. So glad I hung in there lol

Good one. Early Seinfeld was borderline terrible.

I actually didn't watch it all the way through because I thought it got so much worse season 2. I was under the impression that that was the general consensus, but it appears I may be mistaken.

Seinfeld is without question my favorite show of all time, but I'll admit the early years were a bit of a drag. There's only a handful of episodes throughout the 9 year catalog that I genuinely dislike and won't watch if I happen to stop on the channel, and all of them are in the first few seasons.

Once it really figured itself out though around season 3ish, look out.

Yeah, Seinfeld is a good one. Since I'm 22 years old though, I've only watched the episodes on rerun in random order, so I'm not really that aware of which episodes are from earlier seasons and which ones are later. Obviously you can a bit of an idea, but not like watching it in order.

Star Trek TNG got much better after the first season. Smallville was one that got much worse as the years went by - this one still disappoints me the most.

I was a huge Smallville fan and this is spot on. It peaked in the 4th season and got progressively worse each season after. It was very disappointing.

King of the Hill.

ETA:

The Office started slowly and got amazing in season 3 through the point when Michael left.

Parks and Rec was slow in the first season and got really, really good afterwards. I haven't liked this current season much.

I think the only episode I can't watch is the Indian wedding reverse one. Some reason I hate that one, all others I will watch anytime.

And...I will also go with Parks and Rec.

Good one. The cast really started to mesh around Season 3.

Has any show ever gotten more worse after its first season than Heroes?

Most comedy shows get better after the 1st season.

Early seasons for comedies are typically awkward and still in the feeling-out process (Seinfeld).

I loved Season 1 of The Newsroom, but I thought Season 2 was even better.

Is this serious?

S1 amazingly amazing
S2 good
after MEHHHHHH

for the person talking about the office look at season 2 episode list. Everyone is amazingly good. No down episodes. So saying S3 really doesnt give justice to the show

Breaking bad was amazing all the way through but it did get better every year.

Psych is another that got better even though it was never bad. White collar has gonna better once it found its way
