I've seen a lot of people taking about The Americans on this board so I've decided to give it a try. I've watched the first two episodes and thought it was good, but I find my mind wondering during the episodes and kind of getting bored. Now, I know you can't judge a series off of two episodes so I'm definitely gonna press on, but I was just wondering what yalls thoughts on the series are.

I'm probably gonna get roasted for this, but I just haven't connected with the show yet. I've read where most people love it, so I'm going to keep an open mind and give it a couple of seasons.

Oh and Kerri Russell is fire

yeah, ive always been a fan of this show but both my wife and I really like it, but dont love it.

Its not on my mount rushmore of current shows where i say "oh man the Americans is on tonight, i cant wait!"

Its a slow burn for sure and it can drag. I feel like each season moves at a snails pace.

I watched about 5-6 episodes and just kind of forgot to keep watching. Didn't really miss it. It was a fine show just was never really into it.

Glad I'm not the only one. I'm in need of a new series and this is one of the few I hadn't started. I'll wait it out

I watch the first season as it aired and kind of forgot about it. Caught up about a month a go. I like it a lot.

Same here. At times it's really good. But it's often pretty contrived. The plot just feels forced and plodding way too often. I bailed early in Season 2.

I did the same thing. It's interesting because it's a Cold War spy show but I found it boring from time to time.

Quick question to all of the contributors to this thread:

How old are yall? Do you have actual recollection of the Cold War?

I have found that the people that really like this show (like myself) are old enough to remember the CW and have context for the show.

It's a show that is very dependent on deep character building.

Once you start to identify with the characters you become hooked.

It is an intensely personal show.

I'm 32 and have no memories of the cold war but I absolutely love this show. IMO it's been the best show on television for the past few years.

I remember the JFK assassination and did duck and cover in elementary school. The "moral equivalence" mode portrayed in The Americans rings a bit hollow to me. The Russian empire really was shitty and deserved to fail.

It bothered me at first too, but the longer the show goes on the more the differences become apparent.
