It already ranks #1 in 8 day total and needs a weak 35 million in the next 4 days to get the 10 day record. I think it will pass up IJ4 and iron man by the end of the weekend.

My brother saw it at 3:40 yesterday afternoon and it was sold out.

Yeah, I went and saw it again Tuesday night. On a Tuesday night at 7:15 (at Cinemark in Perkins Rowe), it was basically sold out (the ushers were in there making people scoot over to make room for people).
And this is amazing:
This movie is a fricking juggernaut. And doesn't look to be slowing any time soon really.

What do yall predict for next weekends total. Could it go another 100 million again? I would say it could do 70-80 mil safely.

I would say no fricking way.
But then again, it's not just breaking records right now...it's shattering them. I mean, it's made over 60 million in the last three WEEKDAYS.
Posted on 7/24/08 at 2:59 pm to CocomoLSU
I would say yes. It would take, what...50% more people than what have been showing up on a freaking weekday?

Yeah, it is already #1 in 7 and 8 day totals, 3rd in 9 day totals, and 6th in 10 day totals
The $222,150,806 its made in 6 days is 13.3% more than the previous largest 7 day total of all-time, which was Dead Man's Chest's $196,019,502
That 6 day total is also 3.5% higher than the previous largest 8 day total of all-time, which was Dead Man's Chest's $214,563,858
Insane

$80 million is a great guess. The record for highest grossing 2nd weekend is Shrek 2, with $72 million. $80 million would be an increase of 11% over that, which is at the low end of what the Dark Knight is doing now
quote:
All industry eyes will be on The Dark Knight as it tries to blast through the triple-century mark in a mere ten days. Given the colossal hit's muscular midweek numbers, this record feat could indeed happen. But how high can it fly in the end? And will it get closer to Titanic than any other blockbuster before? Only moviegoers can determine that, but don't expect a 70% drop like Hulk and Hellboy II suffered. In just five days, The Dark Knight has grossed about as much as its 2005 predecessor Batman Begins grossed during its entire five-month run.
The Warner Bros. smash hauled in a mammoth $24.5M in sales on Monday and followed that up with a stellar $20.9M on Tuesday. That puts Knight on course to generate an eye-popping $235-240M in its first full week of release obliterating the old record of $196M set by another July juggernaut of a sequel - Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. With so much demand absorbed on the first weekend, especially from those round-the-clock showtimes that many exhibitors programmed last Friday morning, a steep sophomore decline is sure to occur. Even Chest which was well liked by audiences fell by 54% on the second voyage to $62.3M as it faced a pair of new releases that each bowed to $21-22M. Spider-Man 3 tumbled by 62% after its record-breaking opening even though none of the openers against it reached double-digit millions.
Word-of-mouth for Heath Ledger's final complete performance has been electric and there is still a big audience out there to reach, not to mention the fans who are lining up for seconds and thirds, plus those who are finally getting their hands on Imax tickets. The X-Files has plenty of audience overlap, but Batman isn't worried in the least. It's clear which film offers more entertainment for the dollar. Competition from new releases should not be too intense so The Dark Knight may witness a 55% drop this weekend to about $70M. That would allow the ten-day cume to skyrocket to $308M which could allow the Caped Crusader to fly past Iron Man in an astonishingly quick eleven days to become the highest grossing blockbuster of 2008 with so much cash still ahead of it.

I think it can make a legitimate run at 600 million
Posted on 7/24/08 at 3:14 pm to barry
I know I'm going to go donate another $20 this weekend, but 600mil is really, really fricking high.
Posted on 7/24/08 at 3:16 pm to barry
the 600 mil is just box office, not DVD's and so forth right?
damn that movie made some mad loot. I wonder what titanic made as a whole. Dvd's, box office, ect.

This makes me want to donate them a few hundred mil just so they knock off titanic.

Not a chance...That $600 million is ridiculous
Titanic made $21 million in its 10th weekend. The 2nd highest grossing 10th weekend of all time? $8.4 million.
Titanic beat that number by almost 150%

That $600 million is JUST domestic numbers. It's World Wide Box Office number is $1.85 BILLION. Thats $700 million more than the 2nd highest grossing film off all time
That doesn't include DVD sales

Titanic made about 1.2 billion just off of foriegn box office.
1.8 total box office.
I don't think they report video sales.
It is the first American movie I have seen to make more foriegn than it did domestic.
ETA: DAMN YOU SPEEDY!

It also made over $1.2 billion overseas in just Box Office. TDK may get somewhat close domestically but it will never touch that retarded number.

Actually, the majority of their total box office numbers come from overseas
