In just five days, The Dark Knight has grossed about as much as its 2005 predecessor Batman Begins grossed during its entire five-month run.

Holy shite.

That puts Knight on course to generate an eye-popping $235-240M in its first full week of release obliterating the old record of $196M set by another July juggernaut of a sequel - Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.

Holy fricking shite.

And that's JUST box office.

Not to mention DVD sales, rentals, licensing, and most importantly the thing that started the craze, the books.

I didn't think so either, but if it gets to $308 million in 10 days, all it has to do is make half that in the remainder of its run, which isn't that far fetched at this point.

That record of 10 straight weekends of $20 million is crazy.

Like I posted one page back:

quote:

Titanic made $21 million in its 10th weekend. The 2nd highest grossing 10th weekend of all time? $8.4 million.

Titanic beat that number by almost 150%

Titanic

I don't know if any movie will ever have the broad, mass appeal that Titanic had. And also, that was back in the day before pirating and all that was a big deal.

It will never even remotely be matched (worldwide). Hell, domestic either (not counting for inflation).

I can proudly say though, that I never saw Titanic in the theaters.

The only thing about Titanic that was good was that it vaulted Celine Dion into uber star status.
