I last watched SNL, regularly, in the 1990s - anytime I've caught a show in the past 15 years or so (which hasn't been that often) - I was very underwhelmed (and this is with little in the way of expectations).

The occasional skit is funny - nothing spectacular - but funny.

Ferrell and Hammond were about the last cast members I thought were legitimately funny. I never liked Fey, Fallon, Kattan, etc.

I couldn't pick any of the new ones out of a police lineup.

This was being watched by another person in the room on Netflix, so it was not current season but still "new".

I just shook my head. If I was one of those actors asked to act out that writing I would refuse.

No Steve Martins.

Steve Martin's humor has not aged well. It's cringing trying to watch some of his classic SNL moments. Two wild and crazy guys? No thanks. Dumbest sketch ever.

I may be in the minority but, I think the past 4 years or so have been some of the best of SNL. I wasn't a fan of SNL much in the 2000's. Jimmy Fallon was ok but the show just sucked with Tina Fay as head writer. She was much better suited with a show like 30 Rock. After she left, the show really took off. All the current female cast members are pretty good for the most part. I felt the show's female cast members in the past have been pretty awful, with the exception of the mid to late 90s.

The cast of the last 4 years was amazing. All very solid performers:
Fred Armisen
Bill Hader
Andy Samberg
Jason Sedakis
Kristen Wig
Vanessa Bayer
Seth Meyers
Nasim Pedrad
Kate McKinnon

I like most of the new cast. I really like Brooks Wheelan.

Look, I liked the 90s era. But it still had its fair share of misses.

There are plenty of good sketches with the current cast. I mean, did you see Black Jeopardy the other week with Louis CK?

SNL completely relies on the host now. It used to not matter who hosted it would still be funny.

it's as good as it's always been which is to say it has its hits and misses.

This year's biggest problem is it's misuse of the cast. Mckinnon and Moynihan are hilarious, and they'll go entire shows without showing up in a skit. That's absurd.

There's a lot of talent on this cast, but they get used awkwardly.

Now, Kenan Thompson is absolutely terrible, and how he's been on for over ten years is something I will literally never understand.

I still like the show despite the hits and misses. I like the cast even though they have lost some of my favorites in the last few years.

I didn't think the Seth Rogen show was that good but liked the Monster sketch and loved the dog food sketch.
