It could be written funny as hell, but if the delivery is off, dead joke right there.

That's one of the problems...even if the material was funny, the cast does a shite job of "acting" the scenes/lines. I've said this a lot lately, but the majority of them simply read directly from the cue cards 100% of the time nowadays. You're not gonna pull off joke delivery if you're simply reading lines as they appear in front of you. With some of them (looking at you, Bobby fricking Moynihan), it's almost as if Lorne told him that if he doesn't read his lines, he'll be fired.

If they tried to do a skit like Wild and Crazy Guys these days, every line would sound like it was being read by a robot and it wouldn't be funny at all.

I think it's starting to get funny again. The hit/miss amount is amazingly higher than it has been in years. The new cast is promising. They're just starting to develop recurring characters and a personality. I have high hopes if taken keep the current core of people.

Is there anything you enjoy in the entertainment industry? I don't think I've seen you complement one show or movie in months.

it's just a down season. they have them. lots of new people, new writers, and the cast is ENTIRELY too large. the featured players are completely superfluous. But I'm also not in the "SNL has sucked since the 70's" crowd, either, . I'll stick with it. That being said, I havent seen the past 3 cause I knew it wasn't worth my time...

ETA: oh, and Colin Jost's Seth Meyers impression is awful. Maybe he needs to try another character...like Guy Who Has Another Job...

Say what? I compliment shite ALL the time on here.

shite, I defended Lost and True Detective within the last half a day or so. I've touted Fringe in multiple threads lately, and am trying to organize a board rewatch for people. I talk a lot about movies that I like, horror in particular lately in multiple threads. I actively post in The Voice threads every season. I'm in GoT threads almost every week talking about that badassness of a show. Breaking Bad as well. The Wire. Etc.

You're either intentionally not paying attention, or you're just trying to be a cock. I'm leaning towards both at the moment.

The funniest thing I've seen lately was when the black female writer appeared on update and talked about how popular she would be in slave days. She was hilarious, but of course, she got killed on twitter for being politically incorrect.

IMHO, the last couple years of SNL have actually seen a slight uptick in quality. Granted, it's nowhere near the glory days of other eras, for example the early 90s with Farley, Spade, Myers, Sandler, Hartman, etc.

It seems like they are inconsistent now, but when a sketch or character hits, it can be really really good. Like when Jay Pharoah does impressions or when Drunk Uncle comes on Weekend Update. I think Kate McKinnon and Beck Bennett are both very talented along with Taran Killam. I also very much enjoy Kyle Mooney's awkward humor, especially his pre-recorded stuff.

Gotta agree here. Haven't liked much of what I've seen from him on WU

Is it the writing or the actors?

It's a very weak cast. Tina Fey even said before the season premiere that it's a rebuilding year.

That woman who does the Bieber impression is the best cast member they have IMO. She elevates every skit she is in.

Every decade has its golden cast. We usually don't know how good we have it until they're all gone from SNL.

Having to replace Sudeikis, Wiig, Hader, Sandberg, and Seth Meyers is tough to do. I think there is talent in this cast, they just need time.

She is really good.

I like Brooks Whelan too, he's done some good commentaries on WU. His one about ill thought out tattoos was awesome.

The season started with a bang and was amazing out of the gate. It is hit a lull and admittedly has had some terrible skits but is still watchable. It will likely improve but they have some talented people that are finally showing their range this year.

4 or 5 of their cast members are excellent although a couple are pretty crappy.

this is actually the best crop of girls since the mid 90's.

Every time I see him, he's staring into his cue cards. Every time. I can't get behind that.

I think this cast is great and has a ton of potential. Nasim is the only cast member I don’t really care for.
