I would love to discuss the movie with people who actually try to enjoy themselves at the theatre.

In other words, you would rather discuss a film with people who validate your views instead of having your critical thinking skills challenged by those who would disagree with you? There's no shame in that. The vast majority of people do this. But be honest about it instead of writing three paragraphs beating around the bush.

Well to be fair...he did start his own thread to have this but the people who hated it just couldn't stay in the other 25 threads about it..he seems pretty honest about it to me

He needs to be told he is wrong. Told many times and in hateful tones.

And when he doesn’t change his mind, because no one ever does, the hate needs to be cranked up.

That’s how this works.

Well fellas, I’m out for a while. Keep up the good fight against the trolls! The weekend is here and I have a Bowlmania bracket to fill out, dinner to go to, and other weekend chores. Probably going to see the movie again on Sunday and can’t wait! Will likely drop in and give thoughts on what I picked up on a second viewing.

put me in the small camp that liked the movie. I didn't love it, some things definitely bothered me, but overall it was more good than bad

I've seen 1 or 2 "SJW" complaints and that's basically it.

There's a whole fricking thread bitching about the perceived "SJW" aspect of the film.

After seeing it, it was very well done. But I still maintain that Snoke was a complete waste. I did also want to see Luke run wild. This movie essentially had no saber duels. I don't consider the guard scene nor Luke vs Kylo real duels.

I’m still trying to figure out how I feel about the movie. I didn’t love it, but certainly didn’t hate it.

The only part that I thought was cheesy was Leia’s space walk.

I was disappointed with what I assume is the death of Phasma. I hope she comes back, but if not, would have liked to see her character more.

I also would have liked more X-wing/aerial battles.

I’m hoping Benecio Del Torro’s character returns. I honestly thought he was going to pull a Lando and double cross the FO.

I did appreciate they didn’t rehash from V. They could have easily turned Rey’s training into Dagoba part 2.

They’re obviously incorporating more female and minority roles which is cool. It felt natural and not like they were trying too hard except for one scene with purple hair admiral where all the officers/enlisted were females — there were several sitting at stations.

I do think the casting is great. Rey, Fin and Poe are all fantastic. Driver’s Kylo Ren was much better in this one than the first.

I don't usually mind SJW aspects in movies if they're subtle and done well, but when you dedicate 40 fricking minutes to something that instead should have been a mediocre of Star Wars Rebels and sacrifice much of the plot that is actually working in the movie, then I've got a problem. Like was I under any false pretenses that the people arming Boba Fett were your typical mom and pop shop? No, of course they were scumbags. I didn't need 40 minutes for them to tell me that.

But there are some things directly promised by TFA that aren't fulfilled, namely Kylo Ren's training. It's obvious where to take this story: Make Rey and Kylo the dueling protagonists. The movie played with this idea a bit, but Kylo only makes appearances in the 2nd Act when connecting with Rey, when he should have been having more scenes that they instead waste on Finn and the Resistance. The movie is long as frick, and it wastes the audience's time on things they don't care about at the expense of the good stuff. Kylo killing Snoke would have been far more impactful if we saw them on screen together for more than 3 minutes.

I don't know but I got serious Avatar:TLA vibes from that scene with Kylo and Rey against the guards. It reminded me of Zuko and Aang teaming up.

I am sure it has been an influence on the sequel trilogy. Abrams wrote an episode of the series. Zuko and Kylo Ren's opening scene is largely the same seeking out the master they are obsessed with, except while Zuko spares the village, Kylo massacres it. He's just really a Zuko who is willing to do the horrible things that is asked of him. And you see similarities between Rey and Katara as well.

I was thinking this movie was largely going to be like the second season and it ending complete with the Crossroads of Destiny. They play with it, but don't go all the way through. I wish they did.

yeah I can see that.

I think the only thing I really hated was the whole Casino Planet. That was just a huge miss for me. They could have easily cut that whole thing out and just had Finn and Rose sneak onto the ship 30 minutes earlier in some kind of stolen tie fighter.

So you think Kylo will eventually join Rey against The New Order? Because Kylie has an entire speech that was basically frick the New Order and Rebels and then he just sticks with them. Although I feel like he's not sticking with them for long

Well, Kylo effectively IS the New Order. So... he could just surrender or something.

Who's the big bad then? Was it a Snoke clone killed? Maybe Hux is a hidden force user? Sorry but I just can't take Kylo Ren seriously as a main villain, especially if the idea is to have him redeemed eventually.

Hmm, that's the thing. When you use comedy to make your villains look incompetent/weak as hell like Snoke and Kylo did with Hux, how are we as an audience supposed to view him as a threat anymore?

Hux is just a minion, nothing more. He may as well look like this:

Kylo-Ren is the First Order now. Hux is his B&%*h. I think he still has a chance to become the anti-hero. The Last Jedi is just the middle part of the story.

It is possible that they could go completely off the rails and have the "money men" and capitalism turn out to be the real enemy as the First Order and Resistance join forces to fight for communism and identity politics!
