Does the cast find out ahead of time what the theme will be? If they haven't filmed yet but we know it's exes, it's assumed they know right?? And the big reveal at the beginning is staged?

Yeah that was a BS DQ. He was easily the best person there. Would have made him 4-4 in challenges.

I think the only years where you could figure out the theme were Rivals II and the recent Battle of the Seasons. Next year, too. One of the rumors is that Laurel turned down Seasons after learning the format through Twitter DMs and seeing that Big Easy was on the Fresh Meat team.
Apparently some people have dropped out this year based on guessing their partners.
I doubt any of the other reactions were staged as team challenges are damn near impossible to predict, as are things like the Duels, Free Agents, and of course, the Island. No one knew what they were in for on those and the producers don't reveal details.

I just finished watching Rivals I. You'd think Adam would've say out if he knew the format and could've guessed his partner would be CT.

July 29 update
At this point, there is almost unanimous belief that it will be Battle of the Exes 2. They will leave and start filming in the next week.
These are the teams that seem to be near locks at this point
1) Jay and Jenna (Ex-Plosion)
2) Tom and Hailey (Ex-Plosion)
3) Johnny and Averey (Portland)
4) Jordan and Sarah/Nia
5) Dustin and Jessica (Free Agents)
6) Swift and LaToya (St. Thomas) or Swift and Jasmine (Free Agents)
7) Trey and Laura (St. Thomas)
8) Knight and Jemmye (New Orleans)
9) Danny and Melinda (Austin)
10) Zach and Jonna (Rivals 2)
11) Bananas and Nany (off-screen)
12) Leroy and Theresa (Rivals 2) or Leroy and Nia (Free Agents). This depends on whether Sarah goes, which impacts Jordan's partner
The following are other teams that seem to be in consideration. I imagine we will not see more than two of them.
13) Wes and Theresa (Fresh Meat 2), Doubts that Wes will be on. Might be retired and working solely at his real job
14) Darrell and Rachel (Campus Crawl). If this happens, they should be favorites
15) Eric and Sahar (New Orleans). I suspect they are alternates
16) Dunbar and Ashli (Sydney). I also suspect they are alternates, if people drop out or someone gets kicked out in the first few days.
Ashli getting a call though is bad news in that heavily suggests Kelly Anne is the person who got Team Sydney kicked off before filming on Battle of the Seasons 2. And apparently whoever was responsible for that will never be back on. Dunbar, Cohutta, and Isaac have all been back on, so we know it's not them.

I think the guys' group is decent.
I think the women are terrible though. No Laurel, Evelyn, Cooke, or Emily. No Cara or Camila, either. If Rachel isn't there, the strongest female is Sarah. Without Sarah, we're basically looking at Theresa, Nany, or Jonna as the cream of the crop

I love Sahar but this is a reach. I don't even remember them going past playful kissing, at least on the season. She specifically turned him down for her douchebag arab boyfriend.

I wish they would actually get a decent cast and then find a theme instead if the other way around. But Rivals and Exes have the been the recent seasons that have gotten decent ratings and right now the show is on ratings life support.
Of course, according to the Vevmo insiders the conditions they have the cast in over there are so uncomfortable that it's a reason many of the older guys won't come back.

teams 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, 11, and 12 are all actually pretty solid. i would watch regardless, but that's not bad.
in fact, if they had wes/theresa and darrell/rachel, that would be an absolutely fantastic cast IMO.

I'll be watching regardless, but other than the Explosion and St. Thomas people that seems like a solid cast. Those 4 teams will likely not last too long anyway though.

Those 4 teams really are just the worst they could have possibly picked.
I enjoyed last season, not really a fan of the exes format but will watch anyways. They just don't have the drama anymore that they had in the early seasons.

Holy shite, how did I miss this thread a month ago? I'll try to respond to the whole thread at once..
Why MTV would do Exes again? That was fairly stupid the first time around, and they just came off of possibly their (IMO) best-formatted season ever. Plus, the free agent format would likely lure in older cast members who were awesome.
I barely recognize half of the names on the list in the OP, and I honestly have literally no idea what "Explosion" is. But I will say that as much as I fricking hate that bitch Danny, Melinda is easily one of the hottest chicks ever on MTV. So I would welcome that pair.
And I am always pro Knight...he's always good for some hilarity, especially if that hoe Jemmye is on and droop-facing around the house.
As far as kind of loving or hating Sarah...I fricking hate her unconditionally. She fricking sucks. But, I don't mind her on the show though because a) I love hating her, b) she's gotten better looking over time, and c) she's a solid chick competitor.
Is there any way we can know what this "mental exam" entails? Because if it has anything to do with spelling or general knowledge, I don't know how any of them pass it.
