Just like Clint Eastwood's mention this week of "this p@ssy generation walking around on eggshells", and clarified it to include everyone not just Millennials today.

Just think of how much material has been PCed out of possible skits over the last 20 years. It's hard to be Eddie Murphy level funny when they take away so many of your angles.

The 2010s have mostly s@cked sans some great hosts, skits, or very rare wall-to-wall great episodes.

Sudekis, Sandberg,Hader and Wiig are some of the best ever.

Amersian was pretty talented too.

Maybe Donald Glover/Childish Gambino could help revive it...he's as talented as they come and has a strong comedy writing background plus can act.

SNL just needs to pull the plug.

They've said that since the fricking 70's and it has survived. If you don't like it, don't watch. But don't bitch about it if you stop.

And its been that way for about 10+ years. Its like they went from clever/quirky to crude humor, celebrity and political jokes...

When was this mythical era of SNL that didn't rely on celeb/political impressions or crude humor for the bulk of the best material? It would have to be before Adam Sandler got there at the very least.

These are the worst arguments. I haven't watched the show in 10 years, but I know it's garbage

Seriously. Less than 10 years ago, there was a cast with Armisen, Hader, Wiig, Samberg, Sudeikis, Moynihan, etc.

The show is definitely going through a rough patch right now but there are always transition years until they find the right cast.

He has a new show, so probably not.

If everyone would just start this conversation acknowledging that they will never hold SNL in higher esteem than they did when they were in HS/College, it would be easier to have an objective discussion of quality.

I think the moment they lost me for good was with Gilley. I didn't know what the hell was so funny about that character, yet they kept bringing her back, so I just chalked it up to "I guess I'm officially too old to be watching this show anymore", lol...

I dunno, I have nothing against many of the new-ish cast members when I see them in movies, but for whatever reason, they just didn't click with me when they were on SNL...

This is absolutely not true. SNL was shite when I was in college. It has pretty much been shite since I was in middle school.

Because the show lacks decent writers. In the past, the talent also seemed to be decent writers, but that's not the case anymore. Name the last good movie a cast member from post-2000 has had any major part in writing.

I didn't care for MacGruber on SNL, but I suppose the movie was funny in a "I like this, but at the same time, I'm glad I saw it on cable instead of paying money for it"-kind of way, lol....but yeah, point taken.

When you have a show like that, lots of skits are going to be hit or miss. I'll be 33 next month, and I remember as a kid my siblings and I would go upstairs to my father's room and watch the show with him. We always enjoyed it even though there were skits that weren't funny. Damn, I miss Hartman. He was my favorite.

Someone mentioned Hader. Oh damn he is just hilarious to me.

Kattan, Ferrell, Parnell, Gasteyer, Shannon, Hammond. That was a solid crew. That was early 2000's, I think.

ETA: Oh, back to my original point. Yeah, I see the new stuff, and it's hit or miss, but I still laugh at a good bit of it. I don't like Leslie Jones, though. Just not my thing. And, I didn't really care for Chris Farley too much either. If all you do is scream, I'm not going to laugh. That goes for Jones, Farley, whoever.

The last two seasons have been really good. I'm not sure where this rough patch talk is coming from.

They have been doing political stuff since 1975.

People have said they have gone downhill every year since then as well.

I liked Taran on the show but his homage to Robyn's Call Your Girlfriend video the week that she was on the show is my favorite of his.
