been really good. I'm not sure where this rough patch talk is coming from.

Mostly from people who don't watch.

I feel like everyone always bashes SNL but it's always been what it is now.
Mostly stupid crappy skits that fall flat with the occasional good one and rare amazing one. People love to talk about the great skits back in the day but they never talk about the shitty ones, it will be the same way with the generation.

Hell I'm on a boat is probably top 5 best things they've ever done and it wasn't that long ago

I liked Taran on the show but his homage to Robyn's Call Your Girlfriend video the week that she was on the show is my favorite of his.

Taran Killiam's Call Your Girlfriend homage

That was pretty funny. He was probably my favorite of the current cast except for the young guy. Pete Davidson.

They are right to jump off that ship.

Killam was evidently not renewed despite wanting to be.

I do watch the show though. I thought season 40 was really good so I'm not sure what happened with 41 since it's the same cast. Most people I've talked to who watch the show agree that last year was a little rough.

On the plus side, Weekend Update was a lot better this year.

Fixed the more likely shitty outcome. These were definite blows to the cast, especially Taran. Pharaoh could impersonate anybody, but getting the acting down the the impersonations was a bit grimacy at times.

ETA: Above poster is right, they opted out of Taran's contract. What the frick!? Lorne Michaels is losing touch. The Vince McMahon of Comedy.

Someone mentioned Hader. Oh damn he is just hilarious to me
Probably not a popular pick, but he's my all time favorite cast member. It's a little strange how much I loved his character. Not like strange strange, but just strange.

I think most people wrote SNL off a long time ago, but it was still solid for a while after that. But I do think it's pretty bad at this moment. After the likes of Hader/Wigg/Samberg and a couple of others left, it's been a bit of struggle the last few seasons.

Kenan Thompson is a bigger loss than both of them.

I agree. And I wish he'd stay, but he's the oldest and most veteran cast member. It's not crazy for him to leave.

No doubt it's the right choice for him, but he's one of my favorites. Wonder what he'll do next.

He should host a late night variety talk show with skits.

I still can't figure out who they are trying to target. The first sketch after the monologue is supposed to be the most A+ material that is right down the fairway. But I find it often includes impressions of somewhat obscure celebrities that are too old for a presumably millennial-targeted audience to remember/connect with.

More Pete Davidson.

That kid cracks me up just looking at him. Best skit last year was where he was the "victim" of two hot teachers who had sex with him. Kenan was the judge. Good stuff.
