Just finished the season last night.

Obviously I enjoyed it, otherwise I wouldn't have watched 8 episodes in 2.5 days. Solid music. Great visuals. Fun characters. Loved the small town setting. Paid a lot of attention to 80's details.

Only real complaint was how on the nose some of the other movie references were, and winona ryder was pretty shitty tbh, but she's never been that great. Oh, and the toothless kid got on my nerves. However, none of those issues kept me from thoroughly enjoying the show. Hope there is a season 2.

I thought Ryder was good and the toothless kid was funny.

Yeah, I thought he was the best of the three buddies, and all three were great.

Lucas is the one people should dislike. All he did was bitch and moan for 6 episodes

Yeah...I grew up with Winona.

She was the 80's girl with Molly.

I liked her in this.

Maybe because I just liked to hear her voice.

I can see criticism but she wasn't that terrible.

She can be great or really bad depending on where you are coming from.

It wasn't Raging Bull...she was playing a distraught mother who lost her son to a Stephen King type fantasy.

I think she played that pulp fiction horror angle great.

Probably doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme, but I think that Shepard was Brenner's son. It's the only time where we see Brenner expressing real concern for one of his staffers and he looked pretty sullen when they pulled back the rope and nothing was left. Also, the two exchange a look that doesn't feel like its purely employment related.

I doubt he's a past experiment because he has a real name, unless Brenner got attached to this experiment for whatever reason. I also think Brenner's desperation to get Eleven to make contact with the demogorgon was because he was desperate to find his boy.

But it's hard to say with the unclear timeline of everything. I think the lab had already made the controlled gate into the other dimension before Eleven accidentally made the creature aware that it could travel into ours.

The guy who was in the suit attached to the cable who went through the gateway? That wasn't a flash back. That was happening in the present of the show after Will had gone missing.

If you are talking about the same gate above then you are talking about the gate that opened when Eleven touched the monster. It is in the room with the isolation chamber where El's physical body was when she touched the monster. It showed that gate opening in that scene.

Must not have connected that completely on the first run-through. Well, I tried

Yeah they subverted The Thing ending after showing it onscreen.

Winona Ryder in Stranger Things

quote:

In the '80s, when many of us were wannabe Lydia Deetzes, we weren’t thinking about what Winona Ryder would be doing 30 years in the future. But if we had been, we probably would have imagined her in a role exactly like this one.

quote:

These kinds of filmography-based choices can add a layer of wink-wink meta-ness to a series. On shows like Mr. Robot and Stranger Things, which traffic very blatantly in homages and references to other movies, it’s particularly on-brand to see people like Slater and Ryder bringing their past roles to the table as subtext.

Was there a hole created each time?

yes, he would pull them in the other dimension and then feed.

quote:

And why didn't this happen later in the season?

it did. think of the deer and the hole in the tree

quote:

Also, where did that girl go after she killed the monster?
most likely another dimension that is not the upside down world.

my theory is that the monster is the one who creates the gate to other dimensions (creating a solid connection so he/it can create tears anywhere it wants), terraforms the atmosphere (like in the basement of the gov facility), and then feeds on the population.

I dont think El created the gate (her powers seem to be more sophisticated than creating tears), she just made contact with the monster, allowing him to know of their dimension.

In the upside down dimension, you see buildings, roads, structures, so that tells us that this monster most likely wasn't born in that dimension, since humans most likely built them. some how it crossed over and terraformed the atmosphere and killed everyone there, and was ready to move on to the next dimension.

So if there is a season 2, Questions I have are:

What dimension is El in?
Where did the monster originally come from?
Was Will's genetics changed so that he can cross over or is he infected with something else?
What was in the egg?

But the upside down structures were caused by our dimension. Changes here affect things there. I don't think there was a separate civilization there.

That is the gateway to the monster world. El is the keeper of the gate to protect us from the hordes of ghost and demons. Will was a true keymaster, Miss Jones was a false keymaster and in fact in a twist the destructor. In this parallel dimension, plots, characters, and stories progress. Recirculate, reboot, regurgitate.

Wait, what egg?

They could expand into the upside down in S2.

Another comparison is with sinister. ST is better in the sense that they actually showed the monster some and explored its world.

Wow, what a phenomenal series - just amazing, down to every last detail.

the opening title sequence, the score, the soundtrack is purely A+

I dont know the last time I've had this much "fun" watching a series. Sure, there have been some great TV over the past 20 years, but I actually had fun watching this from beginning to end. It was every one of my favorite movies as a kid, wrapped up into a mini-series, yet shot and produced with all the current technology and effects.

Silver Bullet, Flight of the Navigator, WarGames, The Goonies, Gremlins, Explorers.....it's like someone took the best parts of all these movies, put them in a blender and poured out a Perfection Milkshake

As much as I'd like to see a Season 2 continue on with the same cast, what I think would be the best for the series would be to just keep Eleven's character to bridge the seasons.
