I get that the character can be annoying but the show gets so good you don't even notice and they dial her back a tad.

Character get less of a role as the show goes on? I can't stand her character and I'm only on the 3rd episode.
I didn't care for season 1 all that much. The rest of it might be my favorite comedy ever. I don't watch that many comedy TV shows, though.

The problem is you're going through Season 1. Which is a terrible season of television. Don't judge it based on that awful shite. She gets better.

She's not a character that you're gonna wish had more lines.
But if she wasn't there, the show probably wouldn't work.
Swanson is awesome, but he probably wouldn't be so cool if he was the main character.

I never even realized how useless her character was. I love the show and if you started talking about it, I could go for hours listing funny things from other characters, and I would completely not even remember that she is in the show.

I HATED Amy Poehler on SNL. I despised her. I couldn't finish season 1. Once I grew to like the show, she grew on me. She isn't remotely cringe worthy to me at the end.
Her gifts to Ron Swanson are awesome. The private dinner. The trip to Scotland.
People wrongly compare her to Michael Scott. She is nothing like Scott even in season 1. She is a nonstop worker bee and competent. She does all the work in the office. She couldn't be further opposed to Scott.

The first season in general is very mediocre. Once it hits its stride then it becomes addictive.
After the writers figure out what they have in Andy and Ron, the show really takes off.
