The Sound of Freedom, which opens in theaters Tuesday, has received a 92 percent "fresh" rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 100 percent rating from audiences who have seen the film ahead of opening day.

In a review for Variety, Owen Gleiberman said that "you needn’t hold extreme beliefs to experience 'Sound of Freedom' as a compelling movie that shines an authentic light on one of the crucial criminal horrors of our time, one that Hollywood has mostly shied away from."

quote:

"But as 'Sound of Freedom' informs us, it’s the fastest growing international criminal network the world has ever seen. A closing title states — accurately — that there are more people enslaved now, by sex trafficking, than there were when slavery was legal. And the nightmare lived by captured children is unspeakable, unimaginable…and all too real. Let’s be clear: This matters more than the cocaine or opioids industry," Gleiberman wrote.

The Pauline Center for Media Studies, a project of the Daughters of St. Paul, wrote that "Sound of Freedom plays like an action thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat at the same time as being a drama about Tim's first foray into rescuing trafficked kids. Caviezel's acting is spot on as he expresses Tim's horror at the reality these victims have endured and his determination to liberate them.

I'll pay to see this movie as a reward to them for making it, but something tells me I won't think it's all that great.

Soooo, basic Christianity is considered "extreme beliefs" by Glieberman.

Got it.

Because Hollywood is one of the main contributors. That’s one of the reasons it took so long to be released.

Looks pretty good. I didn’t realize this till I looked him up just now, but I saw this director’s other movie Bella years ago and I remember liking it.

It’s a mystery to us all. Why would Hollywood not want to take on the evils of child sex trafficking?

Fun fact: This movie was finished 5 yrs ago and literally shelved by Disney after they bought 21st Century Fox, who was the original distributor of the film.

They movie never would have even been released had Angel Studios not come in and begged Disney to buy the rights for and release the film essentially as an independent with almost no press or pub.

And with all that, the film is still expected to make about $20M at the box office this weekend, which is basically 30% of the gross of Indiana Jones 5, which cost probably 50x more.

Just watched it in a packed theatre, and loved it. Such a heartbreaking story. My suggestion would be to stay through the credits to hear the special message at the end.

Soooo this is why it’s important to actually read something before commenting on it. Context is everything right? Maybe see the sentence BEFORE that statement. Not referring to Christianity at all

the film could be seen as adjacent to the alt-right paranoia that was originally stoked by 4Chan and QAnon: the wing-nut conspiracy theory about a Washington, D.C., pizza parlor being a front for a pedophile ring, extending into the larger conspiracy theory that says that the culture of liberalism is a racket to protect and cover up the actions of pedophiles.

All of that, let’s be clear, is insane nonsense. Yet let’s assume that, like me, you’re not a right-wing fundamentalist conspiracy theorist looking for a dark, faith-based suspense film to see over the holiday weekend.

What does adjacent to alt-right mean? Guilty by association? Light alt-right? is it an alt-right movie or not? and what is alt-right? like alt-country? WILCO?

It was a really powerful movie.
