Wayne's World - Bohemian Rhapsody.
Good call
All 3 of the OPs choices were popular and nor do I don't relate any of those songs to the tv show when I first hear them again
Top Gun and Danger Zone is another good one posted already

Mrs. Robinson owed it's popularity to the movie as it was written for it. Scarborough Fair also became popular after the movie and wasn't even released as a single until after the movie.

The Sound of Silence-not so much:
The Sound of Silence
May be how many "younger" people know about it, but it was plenty famous before the movie.

The Sound of Silence-not so much:

Throughout the month of January 1966 "The Sound of Silence" had a one-on-one battle with The Beatles' "We Can Work It Out" for the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100. The former was #1 for the weeks of January 1 and 22 and #2 for the intervening two weeks. The latter held the top spot for the weeks of January 8, 15, and 29, and was #2 for the two weeks that "The Sound of Silence" was #1. Overall, "The Sound of Silence" spent 14 weeks on the Billboard chart.
quote:
When director Mike Nichols and Sam O'Steen were editing the 1967 film The Graduate, they initially timed some scenes to this song intending to substitute original music for the scenes. However, they eventually concluded that the song could not be adequately substituted and decided to purchase the rights for the song for the soundtrack. This was an unusual decision for the time, as the song had charted over a year earlier and recycling established music for film was not commonly done.

Great soundtrack to good movie. I started really digging on Can you Hear me Knocking after I heard that in the movie.

Bohemian Rhapsody was popular for a while..
But, it gained even more popularity after Wayne's World.
I remember some young kids talking about "that new song by Queen"

So the Stones You can't always get what you want wasn't popular before Californication?
Hell, it had already been "re-discovered" once by being the funeral song in The Big Chill.
