there have been so many apes and ripoffs and copy cats, that it it doesn't seem "original".
and a lot of this. it has fallen prey to being so influential and interesting that people ripped it off repeatedly. for someone who didn't see this before the rip offs i imagine the don't get the full effect... but it is the difference between listening to live music and listening to a music file on your headphones after it was digitally compressed and the joy sucked out of it

OP is some kind of mouth breather. You love a shitfest in Gravity, yet find one of the top 10 films of the 90's to be meh.
How is life on the suck list?

I agree with OP. It is good, but people overhype it because they think it makes them sound smarter or like they are professional movie critics or some shite. Get over yourselves.

Is this where the opposing sides try to claim the moral high ground and call the opposition hipsters? Talking down a generally highly regarded movie like pulp fiction seems like hipster talk to me
I think I just answered my own question

I like Forrest Gump more than Pulp Fiction. That hardly makes me a hipster.

Not one upvote for the OP.

I don't disagree with him but I threw a downvote in there for good measure.

You're fine with saying you don't like a movie and explaining why but just accusing people who like the movie of being pretentious is obnoxious
Personally i thought Forrest Gump was really bad in a lot of ways even though on the surface it was likable and entertaining. I'll explain that point of view as long as anyone interesting cares to talk about it. What I don't do is attack everyone who loves Forrest Gump as an imbecile or some other negative characteristic. People who like Gump are generally unlikely to allow the same respect for a difference of opinion

Sorry I didn't explain it as specifically as you wanted. MANY people overhype it and then act like if you don't enjoy it then your taste in movie sucks.
Piss off douche.
lol never refer to anyone as a hipster ever again

I saw Pulp Fiction in the 90's and absolutely abhorred it. Never watched it again. Reservoir Dogs and Kill Bill confirmed that Tarantino is not for me.
I saw Forest Gump the first weekend it was available on VHS from Blockbuster in the 90's. It was the first movie that I enjoyed so much that I watched it again the next morning.

Well you're watching it 20 years later, after being told it is this fantastic movie. Hearing people rant and rave about it.
When I saw it for tge first time all I knew was that my dad said it was really good. I didn't have insane expectations, and I love it. It's in my top 5 for sure.

A hipster doesn't like something because they want to appeal cool by disliking something popular. There are a variety of people around here (who happen to be some of the more thoughtful and interesting posters) who don't like Gump for reasons that have nothing to do with that... their reasons are based in the content of the film.
People are obviously welcome and encouraged to exchange opinions about movies and television around here and I'll admit I get annoyed by people who avoid that purpose (and instead attack anyone with a different opinion with ad hominem insults like pretentious, hipster, etc). I guess it wasn't clear I was expressing the opinion that calling a group of people who disagree pretentious out of hand is silly and that's why I made the hipster comment. A major useful purpose of this board is to learn more about movies because it makes them more enjoyable.

I'd give it a solid A. Best QT movie thus far.
ETA: my biggest gripe is that Travolta was in it and did a splendid job and I consider him to be one of the biggest creeps in Hollywood due to sexual accusations I've heard about that may not be true.

Which has very little to do why I thought it was just good. I watched The Godfather and The Godfather Part II, years after both films were released in theaters, hearing the same hype as the hype you hear for films like Pulp Fiction. The Godfather and The Godfather Part II are two of my all-time favorite movies. I also grew up hearing similar things about Schindler's List and, when I finally saw it, it became (at least in my opinion) the best film I have ever seen.
I have always been able to ignore the hype and judge each movie I see with an open mind. I ended up feeling the same way about Pulp Fiction as I do any other movie written and directed by Tarantino. They are wonderfully filmed motion pictures that get weighed down, more often than not, with way too much exposition. I realize he uses dialogue in scenes to build tension but there comes a time when enough is enough. Get your point across already.

I enjoyed it, but I have a hard time rewatching any QT movies. PF was very well made though.

I bet you were shocked at how the movie Lincoln ended.
