I don't know if this is accurate or not, but I love how everyone assumes that in Europe all races live in supreme harmony.

Not to also mention that the actor that was cast is 27 years old, so even if an American was cast for the same role he would be around the same age. Born in 1990. Not exactly growing up in a time where interracial relationships are super scandalous like the 50s.

It is odd when you watch Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, or pretty much any drama and realize the leads are English.

A quick google search shows Jackson has appeared in at least 118 films.

Nobody ever stole a role from him.

Sam is banned from Wakanda!?!?

Not really.

Because black British actors are often classically trained and not rappers?

I think that's one of the points Samuel L. is making. Name five prominent black American male actors under 35 years old without a music background. It'll take you a while. All of the big roles are either given to black Brits or rappers.

I'll give you Walking Dead, but all the white characters in GOT have English accents. It makes sense that they are English.

white british actors steal alot of white american roles as well mate

I have a theory that mastering accents is a fantastic baseline to be a great actor. Guys like Fassbender are so good at performing different accents without flaw, that the acting falls right into place.

This is actually a valid opinion. In that it emphasizes culture and experience over race. Its actually getting away from identity politics.

They are casting ACTORS, people who have to ACT, you know, fake it.

Why do they need the actual experience?!

Asked why so many British black actors are cast in American roles, Jackson replied: “They’re cheaper than us, for one thing. They don’t cost as much. And they [casting agents and directors] think they’re better trained, because they’re classically trained.”

Well. Hate to break the news to him, but they are better. Hell, the white British/European actors are better than most of ours now too

Me and my friend talked about this a few weeks ago.

Exactly. Why not just cast actual drug addicts/junkies then? I mean, they lived it.... or it's because they can't act

i mean this is a problem for all american actors, not just the black ones.
yeah take a look at band of brothers

how many english actors were there playing american GI roles?

Damian Lewis
Michael Fassbender
Tom Hardy
James McAvoy

among others

imagine if those roles were in the hands of americans? then again, i can't imagine anyone else playing the Dick Winters role other than Damian Lewis.

I'd imagine the British black actors don't buy into the whole diva thing that American black actors do

With the Walking Dead, British guys like Andrew Lincoln and Lennie James have authentically Southern accents. Brits are often better at playing Southerners than all non-Southern Americans.

SLJ has stated that he will never turn down a film that meets his financial costs because "it is so hard for black men to break into this industry, it would be a travesty to take that for granted"

Even tho, by taking every job possible, he is literally taking acting jobs out of the hands of other rising black actors

If acting is to imitate the life of another person, can you actually do it better than someone who actually lived it?

This reminds me of the skit on Key & Peele when one of them is an actual former gang member and the other is a British actor.
