I forgot the word "classic" was in there, but oh well. The Descent and The Thing are modern classics.

1. Bride of Frankenstein - And it isn't close. Brilliant film
2. Creature from the Black Lagoon
3. King Kong
4. Godzilla
5. Tie: Phantom of the Opera and Nosferatu
The Thing is a Top 5 movie all-time for me, but it isn't a classic monster movie. Not imo.

The Thing should definitely count as a monster movie, so too should Alien and Jaws. The Blob (1988) is a sentimental favorite because Abbeville, of course.

Carpenter's The Thing is the greatest thriller of all-time.
But also definitely qualifies as a monster movie.

Frankenstein
Dracula
The Wolf Man
The Mummy
The Bride of Frankenstein
When you say "classic monster movies" I think of the old black and white films from the 30s and 40s.

Creature From Black Lake
Not really, but it was filmed in Louisiana and even in a local part of the state where I grew up.
