Was Marky Mark a plant or was he just a vigilante cop avenging Queenie?

Don't know if a movie this old needs a spoiler alert but WTH?

Thanks. Watched it (again) last night and remembered I never figured that out.

Never saw the rat in the last scene either

He knew Damon was dirty and saw he was gonna skate so he killed him.

Didn't Leo give them to the therapist to deliver to Marky Mark? I assumed that's how he knew for certain who the rat was.

I never understood why the old women in the hallway shunned Damon right before Wahlberg kills him.

How well does it hold up to Black Mass? Or against Black Mass I should say.

I know Mass is more historically accurate.

Mob movies in general?

Goodfellas, Godfather 1&2 are a "10"

Departed is a "7.5"?

Black Mass....?
ETA for OP question, just pure vengeance and justice. The only two guys he somewhat gave a shite about are killed and the one he knew all along was at least a prick but now knows is the Rat gets awards? After killing 3 more cops? And he quit or was on leave anyway.

Vigilante ex cop... He was onto Sullivan being dirty, especially after Capt Queenan was killed. He ended up quiting after being told he had to give access to the undercover files and that he was then reporting to Ellerby.

Once Bill got his hands on the tapes from Costello's lawyer, he sent copies of them over to Dingham, knowing that he would do something about it.

because he wanted to be part of that class SO much and did all sorts of evil shite to get there

and he lives with them now, is in the clear (by his perception), and is free of the mob's influence, and...he's still a piece of shite to them

it's a subtle invalidation of all the bad shite he had done

kind of like the ending/reveal of gangs of new york but much more subtle

Huh?

The Departed isn't based on anything to be historically accurate.

He didn't quit.

quote:

Ellerby: Dignam, take a leave of absence.

Dignam: Take a leave of what?

Ellerby: Queenan is dead. I'm your boss now.

Dignam: I don't care. I'd rather hand in my papers first.

Ellerby: World needs plenty of bartenders. Two weeks with pay.

Dignam: Good!

Lots of weird terrible acting by some pretty good actors in this show.

So my statement is in essence correct. No? Departed was essentially based on Whitey and his being an informant. The rest they ran with.

What do you think "I'd rather hand in my papers means?"

He would have had to report to Ellerby and he said he'd rather "turn in my papers = quit" rather than work for him.

Ellerby then proceeds to say "fine then, two weeks notice"

So he is accepting his resignation.

No, he said "two weeks with pay"

Which can be a tad confusing as you would think that implies a suspension

But I think he actually quit

I have never seen this mentioned anywhere except by you just now. It is actually a remake of a Hong Kong film named Infernal Affairs and I seriously doubt that Hong Kong film makers based it on Whitey.

Yea that on top of

quote:

Ellerby: Dignam, take a leave of absence.

Always made me think he was just giving him a two-week suspension to cool off. It is a tad confusing.
