Ellerby: Dignam, take a leave of absence.

That was before he said he would would rather turn in his papers than work for him.

It is confusing and I originally thought the same way as you, but then after thinking "two weeks notice" it fell into line better.

Plus, why would Ellerby say "fine, the world needs bartenders.... Two weeks, with pay?" He is acknowledging him turning in his papers for a new career.

Yea I see that now. I just always took it like he was putting him on suspension.

Nicholson and Scorsese might have loosely based that character on him but the movie itself is complete fiction and a remake of a Hong Kong film. That's all I was saying.

You see a lot of people say they based a character on someone. Heath Ledger based his Joker on Tom Waits.

That doesn't mean anything other than they felt it would fit the character.

The plot was taken from Infernal Affairs but the Costello character was based on Whitey.

So I don't take any details of the film as being historically accurate.

Goodfellas, Godfather 1&2 are a "10"

Departed is a "7.5"?
Agreed on Goodfellas. I'd put the Godfather part one as a 9, but part two is a 10. The Departed is a 9 for me.

I always wondered why Marky Mark was such a dick to Leo from the very start. I guess he was playing good cop bad cop but they were all supposed to be on the same team.

It never made sense to me.

Dignam resented him for not being true "southie" and thought he was wasting his potential being a statie.

Remember he says "you scored 1600 on your SAT, you're an astronaut kid, not a statie".

And whoever said the acting was bad in this movie, LMAO. You kidding me?
