I dont think we would be in mop up mode though. Although dont they show some sandy people in the end cheering for a downed mini-mothership?

The assistant coach from Necessary Roughness tells the president "they're coming down across the globe" when he lands after the battle. The Americans knew they had won when they went out in the desert. They showed down ships in the Middle East, Africa, Australia, etc.

I'm not sure what you're talking about, the entire premise behind documentaries is that they are based in reality.

Is there any way to verify what cities were hit by the aliens and which weren't, so we can estimate the death toll?

I think we can assume the following based on info from the movie:
DC, NYC, LA, Houston, Philadelphia, Paris, Moscow, London, Tokyo, Beijing, Colorado Springs (NORAD)

We know the following were spared:
Cairo, Sydney

Any others that can be confirmed?

Have we brought up yet that they hacked super advanced alien technology with a fricking Mac?

Our modern software technology had been developed via reverse engineering components of the alien ship. Therefor, interfacing our technology with theirs wasn't all that difficult because ours branched from theirs.

ok but if the goal was to actually have the nuke disable the shields of all the ships by destroying the mother ship. What was the point of the virus and launching the attack?

Didn't the virus disable the shields and the nuke disable the mothership which created the chaos (like communication and all that)?

So both were necessary?

but I would think blowing the mother ship up would accomplish both?

Blowing up the mother ship wouldn't necessarily disable the shields without the virus. Somehow managing to upload the virus without blowing up the mother-ship would result in several issues:
1. They would still have a massive foot soldier army to deal with which was preparing for a land invasion
2. Communication between crafts and the mother ship would likely have been restored in time to get the shields back up and counter the working human strategy before all alien capital ships are destroyed.

The virus got rid of the shields
The bomb made shield loss permanent, severed command/control structure, and destroyed all reinforcements and ground forces.

Also, you need the virus to disable the mother ship so they could get away before the nuke went off.

This thread is as useless as searching for meaning in a Pauly Shore movie.

In "Son In Law", when Crawl starts up the combine the sound of a gasoline engine is clearly heard. The combine is obviously a diesel. This movie is COMPLETE bullshite!

"PCU" predicted the SJW movement that we now are victim to today. It was one of the most poignant films of its time. In fact, a more prophetic film wouldn't come about again until "Idiocracy".

I recall Whitmore looking at some map when he was being told about the worldwide destruction of every major city. "We're being exterminated." On that map, it looked like every major city in the US that had a significant population.
