Just caught up to episode 4. Episode 1 felt like Nathan for You but the rest, like others have said, feels like an entirely new thing.

I’m hooked bc it is Fielder.

When they go through the experience of the trivia guy’s friend storming out of the bar after he confesses he didn’t have a masters and the bartender in the background goes “he lied about his masters degree! I heard the whole thing!” I fricking died laughing. I haven’t laughed that hard at something in a while.

LINK

I think this is a few years old during Nathan For Yous run but came across it and found it fascinating. Basically a writer reached out for an interview with NF, then NF realized that writers mom had given a scathing review of Nathan For You on a podcast and so instead he asked if he could do an interview/conversation with the mom and basically make her like him by the end of it. It’s almost like a quasi episode of The Rehearsal without the actual concept but with the same sort of goal in mind and less of a character being played by NF

The mom in the article he’s talking to seems very annoying so you have to deal with that but seeing the way NFs brain works a bit was interesting

Episode 5 was my favorite since the pilot.

The levels of inception at this point are ridiculously hilarious.

Surprised to see some really poor reviews for this one, presumably because of the religious angles. I think a lot of people take this show waayyy too seriously and still don’t “get it.”

Tbh it wasn’t my favorite . I don’t mind bringing religion into the mix but that the only focus. It wasn’t as dynamic as some of the others like the preceding episode, which I thought was the best.

That’s fair. I thought it was interesting that everyone involved — the “mom,” the tutor, Nathan’s mom, and to some extent Nathan himself (rather real or dramatized) pushed their own religious narrative to a fault.

No one was really willing to compromise, and they sort of all came off looking foolish, which happens a lot on this show.

The tutor offered to specifically come and reach common ground and immediately shut it down because she herself wasn’t willing to hear the other side. Then she goes off at the end of the episode and becomes just as controlling as the other “mom” she wanted to run off.

IMO, it was just the sort of uncomfortableness of real human interaction that we’ve come to expect from Nathan. Religion just happens to be a great backdrop for this sort of (usually) unspoken awkwardness.

That’s a really good point and something I didn’t catch. The show has a lot to unpack.

He’s a nerd. He’s always been a nerd. Nothing wrong with that. He’s a nerd. With the pink shirt and everything. I bet he couldn’t even catch a football.

This show fricking sucks and is not funny. Nathan for you is great.

The rehearsal is garbage.

It started hot to trot with first episode but now I feel like I'm watching one man's depression play out through a social psychological experiment.

Its become weird and I'm wondering if this guy will end up hanging himself.

I guess Im too skeptical because it seems staged to me and setup.

No way in hell this is 100% improv. Nathan or the actors never break or mess up on a line, and there are cameras everywhere.

Do people really think these are 100% real? To me its like Curb where everyone in the scene gets an outline of where they want the scene to go and they start filming.

Most of the show they are working off of scripts for the point of the rehearsal, which they clearly don’t show all the times they rehearse, so they simply edit the scenes to highlight the best moments from what was likely a few hours of shooting.

These are definitely real people just interacting to what Nathan is doing or getting them to do, with him leveraging their desire for fame or other desires to go along with his experiments.

First episode was great. The rest are horrible. For people in this thread to applaud it is mind boggling.

Well if you want your mind unboggled, I’d probably just say that people enjoy different things than you do

I find it hilarious, incredibly interesting and enthralling. But it’s not for everyone. Nothing wrong with that.

I came here and said my peace and moved on. But checking back in today, I’m glad I’m not that lone guy who didn’t get the humor.

Glad someone is enjoying it.

I will say he’s a fascinating guy

It’s not my thing and I didn’t laugh but it’s amazing the reviews he gets. It has a 9.1 on IMDb and 100% on rotten tomatoes

That would be the highest rated comedy of all time
