Very good movie. Like they tried to make a real-life version of Kick-arse.

Not sure why it isn't in high rotation during the holidays. Only so many times I can watch Elf.

I liked that one a lot.

In the Loop - Top notch British dark comedy. One of my favorite movies of the last decade.

Exit Through the Gift Shop - Don't want to say too much about the plot but very highly recommended.

Appaloosa - Good, not great western.

Troll 2 - Finally watched this train wreck of a movie. I can see why it has a cult following, it was fun in a terrible sort of way.

The World's Fastest Indian and The Dish. A couple of 60's nostalgia flicks that are good feel-good movies.

Ive never seen the show and I found the movie hilarious

I was the same way. Saw the movie without ever knowing about the show. Liked the movie, found out about the show. Watched the show, and I think the show is funnier. But both the show and movie are great.

If you haven't seen the Guard with Brendan Gleeson and Don Cheadle, do so. Hilarious. Think In Bruges with wittier dialogue and a more action-mystery plot.

The Guard was great. I'd rank In Bruges ahead of it but the Guard isn't far behind at all.

And yeah, In the Loop is fantastic.

"Hot Rod" certainly, "Wag the Dog", and "Fanboys" certainly come to mind.

These are always good threads. I must admit I've found so many great movies from this site. You guys know your stuff and are usually spot on.

Here's mine of late, and since the Olympics are going on, how about "The Trip" a British comedy film. It's very damn funny at times.

The film stars Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon. Coogan has been asked by The Observer to tour the country's finest restaurants, but after his girlfriend backs out on him he must take his best friend. Some really funny stuff and lots of great impressions, too. This clip pretty much shows how the entire movie is paced. After awhile it just beats you down into laughter:

Brick - film noire style mystery starring Joseph Gordon Levitt from 2005
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0393109/

Primer - crazy indie film about time travel (but you really have to pay attention to know what the hell is going on)

Under the radar foreign films I highly recommend:

(you might know the lead actress from Brotherhood of the Wolf)

Sure it was a hit at Cannes but I don't know anyone who has ever seen/heard of it. It seems forgotten.

The Good Thief (2002)- Great film. Nick Nolte is brilliant in this movie.

And then check out the Melville original - Bob le flambeur.

I downloaded it a couple weeks ago but haven't watched it yet. But yeah it does look like it has a Payback feel to it. If you like Payback also check out the Boorman original - Point Blank.

Thought of a few foreign ones:

(French)
-Tell No One: one of the best thrillers ever
-The Intouchables: never seen anyone else talk about this one. Based on a true story about a quadriplegic that makes life difficult for his caretakers, finally "meeting his match" in an African immigrant with a criminal history.
-Priceless: Audrey Tatou in what amounts to a modern day "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels". Very funny, sweet, well directed.

South Korea gets it's props on this forum, but I'll reiterate:
-Park's Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance/Oldboy/Lady Vengeance trilogy, which each stand alone fine but I can't imagine someone watching one and not wanting to see more of the guy's work
-Mother
-The Chaser
-The Host (more lighthearted than the others)

ETA: And Argentina has some great ones as well
-The Secret in Their Eyes: won an Oscar for best foreign film, so maybe doesn't apply as "under the radar", but I suspect quite a few here haven't seen it. Probably my second favorite non-British foreign film behind Seven Samurai.

Also, The Aura and, to a lesser extent, Nine Queens. Ricardo Darin is a pimp.

We really should bump the foreign movie thread. I think I may do that.
