For the first time? Yeah I wouldn't suggest anyone above the age of 14 or 15 to watch that now and think it's a great movie.

Netflix. Today. Right now if possible.

Seriously? It's that good?

It always felt sort of...silly to me as a kid. Does it hold up well (like Goonies does)?

Boonies!!!!! And it isn't close.

Anyone who says Monster Squad can simply take his or her communist arse to North Korea and die in a nuclear "accident."

Monster Squad > Goonies. Probably because I watched Monster Squad as a kid and didn't see Goonies until this year. Goonies was a pretty big disappointment imo and Monster Squad is still one of my favorite movies.

This is why Goonies is a billion times better, you can watch Goonies as an adult for the first time and it is still entertaining. Monster Squad is a shitbox if you haven't seen it as a kid.

Monster Squad is there with Drop Dead Fred, Little Monsters, and such. Good kid movies.

Goonies is genre defining. It is among the greatest child fantasy-adventure movies of all time. I rank it up there with Labyrinth, Neverending Story, and Clash of the Titans. . .maybe even Big.

Damn, the 80's had amazing family films.

I had Goonies, Rad, Thrashin' and Gleaming the Cube on a 4 week rotation every Friday from the age of 8 to around 11. The local video store guy knew when to expect my mom and me in and had the VHS ready. My mom was a damn trooper putting up with that shite for so long

As far as the OP...Why this is even a debate, I don't know. As said above Monster Squad is a good movie as a kid..Same as Little Monsters, but Goonies still gets my full attention when I end up seeing it on TV even now.

ETA: Talia Shire needs to get her shite together and let RAD be put on DVD/Blu-Ray.
The bootleg copies are awful.I just cna't believe in today's day and age she won't budge on the rights to that movie.

It's the same mom in The Goonies and Monster Squad. I just watched Monster Squad for the first time after reading this and that's the first thing I noticed.

Monster Squad is probably decent for a kid, but it's just not close to the Goonies.

Just watched Monster Squad last night. I thought it was great. I'm sure I would have loved it as a kid. Goonies blows it out the water though.

I forgot about RAD, haven't seen that since I was pre-teen.

was looking at why Talia was to blame, didn't know she did production.

Sad when one of the worst (if not THE) James Bond movies, is their best film.

quote:

Lionheart (1987) ... Production Company
Hyper Sapien: People from Another Star (1986) ... Production Company
Rad (1986) ... Production Company
Never Say Never Again (1983) ... Production Company (as A Taliafilm Production) (as TALIAFILM also)

same here, I remember that line but I mix it up with the movie where the kid gets an eyeball on his hand, and his house gets sucked into a portal. Both used to be on HBO a lot, circa 1990.

I think that was the Gate and it had creepy little monsters and the troll thing that was on him while he slept and got killed by the fan. That movie creeped me out as a kid.
